CHAPTER THREE - IS IT A DREAM
Opening my eyes, as soon as I regained consciousness, I was baffled to find a handsome man staring intently at me. The same man that had moments ago, stated that he was an immortal.
This definitely toped the weirdest days of my life.
“Am I dreaming?” I asked facing him, making him smile.
“I’m afraid not.” he stated sincerely, helping me into a sitting position.
Once I managed to sit up, I spotted another man in the room with us. His expression grim as he faced me.
“His name is Armand.” the vampire said, catching my attention. “He wont bite. I’m Erick.” he added in a friendly matter, extending his hands to help me stand.
“But… but… you seem real. You look …real. You feel real.” I stated, feeling his pulse.
“We are real.” Armand stated, while flashing me with his fangs.
What the hell was wrong with me? Vampires? I’m clearly hallucinating. When I fainted I must had fallen and hit myself with something hard on the head. Or just maybe there’s a gas leak somewhere. Maybe too much stress.…
“No ma’am. None of the above. You’re really are in the presence of two vampires.” Armand stated, full of amusement. “But you did pass out because you haven’t eaten since this morning.”
“You can read her?” the one name Erick asked Armand, worry palpable in his voice.
“I’m afraid I can.” Armand said, not one bit sorry he could as he looked at Erick. “Do what we came here to do.” he added before turning to leave.
“Miss I am really sorry to …” Erick said moments after Armand left.
“Melanie.” I found myself saying as he helped me stand.
“Melanie. Lovely name.” he stated taking my hand in his, and kissing the back of it. “I really need you to fix my tooth.” he added honestly. “And I promise no harm will come to you.”
Clearly not believing in a word he said, I stared at his beautiful honey colored eyes which held a silver lining around the iris. He clearly believed himself to be a vampire, I stated to myself as I watched the intensity in his eyes.
“Okay… lets say I believe you for a second, which I don’t. How the hell am I supposed to fix a fang?”
“Now a days, mortals want to be just like us. Technology has advanced, so that you can now create a mixture that function just as a tooth. As a dentist, I am clearly aware that you know what I’m talking of.” he stated trying to bite back a smile.
Relaxing a bit at his explanation, I realized that he wasn’t a real vampire but one of the many people who know had jobs done in their teeth to look like them. “You wont leave me until I fix your tooth?” I asked, desperate.
“I’m afraid you’re right.” he said apologetic.
“Okay then. Lets get it over with then.” I stated, ordering him to take a seat.
Two hours later, Erick was watching himself in the office mirror.
“Good work.” he stated honestly, examining the fang closely.
“Yeah well. Don’t go around telling your buddies that I do work on Vampire’s. Could get my license removed.” I stated, unable to stop myself from appreciating my own work.
“Immortal.” Erick corrected again, I look of exasperation in his face.
At that moment, Armand entered the exam room. “Done?” he asked.
“Yes.” Erick stated with excitement, facing him. “Just in time too. I’m starved.”
“Good. Let me erase her memory and we can go.” Armand stated taking a step towards me.
Instinctively, I took a step away, bumping into Erick. Although I didn’t for one second believe them to be real vampires. The whole erase her memory didn’t sound good. Erick’s hands instantly coming to my waist to steady me. “Please don’t hurt me. I did what you wanted me to do.” I pleaded, facing Erick over my shoulder.
Looking intently at me for a minute, he must had read something in my expression for he raised a hand at Armand, making him stop.
“She believes this is a dream anyways. Let her keep her memory.” Erick stated firmly.
“But…” Armand protested, clearly surprised.
“Wait for me in the car.” Erick ordered, turning to face me.
Looking at Armand, I watched him obediently leave. “Thanks.” I said to Erick.
“No thanks needed. It’s just a greedy action in my part.”
Clearly confused, I followed him to the door.
“This way, next time I see you. I wont have to explain myself to you again. You will know exactly who I am. What I am.” he said before leaving me alone.
