☁️ ALANNAH☁️

Both Harry and I took a well needed rest together the day after the house fire, we both needed it more than ever and I was tempted to call in sick for the next shift just to get a few more hours of sleep, but it was the thought of Hira and all she had lost that really pushed me to go in and visit her.

Apparently after her surgery to try and repair the damage to her spine and her pelvis, her body could hardly keep up with the blood loss during surgery, the brain injury they had diagnosed her with and just the overall shock her body was in, her body couldn't cope with it all and so a nurse from the neurology ward had told me that they had no other choice but to put her in a medically induced coma for a little while, just whilst everything recovers and her brain and respiratory system had a chance to rest rather than working on overload.

I still sat beside her for a while, I held her hand and prayed to some kind of superior that she'd pull through and be just fine. Even the professionals weren't entirely sure if she'd ever be able to walk again but I was praying with everything within me that she's get granted a miracle. I think their family could do with one.

I ended up visiting her every day after that. Every time I had a spare moment I'd find myself in the ICU, holding onto her hand whilst her own parents couldn't. Her father still wasn't in a good way, his whole body seemed to be shutting down but he was still holding on to whatever life he had left in him, he was still pushing through, still fighting. Her mother had been flown to a different hospital, one where they had a burns unit so they could properly treat her, though I had heard from others that it wasn't looking so good for her either. It really made my heart shatter when I thought of everything they had gone through. Their house was burnt to the ground and neither of them knew yet that their son and their brother had passed away on that dreaded night. They were still oblivious and that was hurting my heart more than I could comprehend.

"Lana, angel, you need to be getting home, it's gone seven" Harry sticks his head in the door, automatically knowing that this is where I would be. He's had a hard time prying me away all week. It wasn't often that I got a connection like this with a patient, but I just couldn't leave her alone without anybody by her side. No one deserved to be alone.

"I'll be back" I whisper down to Hira's still body before I stand from the chair to join Harry at the door. He instinctively snakes his hand around my waist to pull me in, something that had been happening a lot more frequently just recently and I wasn't opposed to it at all.

He had been sneaking in little kisses and cuddles wherever he could, whenever there was a spare moment he took it upon himself to be as affectionate as possible and it really did help the shifts move rather swiftly. He came along just at the right moments to provide me with the upmost warmth and comfort and I really couldn't fault him for one single thing, he was a blessing in disguise and I really wasn't sure how I had bagged such a man. I think luck was on my side the night that the two of us met, some guardian angel must've been watching over us that night.
