I saw a beautiful hut in the middle of the jungle. At the front stretched a lush green lawn, while behind it lay a sparkling pond. The hut glowed softly in the moonlight—it looked so unreal, so breathtaking, that I had never seen anything like it before.

As I walked to the door, I knocked gently. No one answered. I sighed, about to leave, when a voice whispered behind me.

Voice: “They waited for you so many years, and you can’t wait for a minute?”

I froze. That voice… I knew it. My eyes filled with tears.

Mia: “H-Hi, GGM.”

Great Grandmother: “Hi, honey.”

I threw my arms around her, clinging tightly.

Mia: “How is this possible? You’re dead. I was there. I saw you… and I couldn’t protect you.”

GGM: “It was my time, honey. No one could have saved me.”

Mia: “But…”

GGM: “You can’t have what you lost, but you can have what’s waiting for you.”

Mia: “I just want to say I’m sorry.”

GGM: “I know, and I love you. But you must listen to me very carefully. I don’t have much time.”

Mia: “Are you leaving me again? Please… don’t go.”

GGM: “I have to. But you must do one thing for me.”

Mia: “What?”

GGM: “Don’t trust anyone too easily, Mia. Be careful whom you let close… and give him a chance.”

Mia: “Him?”

GGM: “He may be a monster, but every beauty needs a beast. Not because he’s strong or because he protects her, but because he loves her—without conditions. His love is selflessly selfish.”

Mia: “Just like Great Grandpa?”

GGM: “A billion times more than him.”

Mia: “Please come back. He misses you… we all do.”

GGM: “I miss you all too, honey. But remember this—just because you can’t see something doesn’t mean it isn’t there. I am always with you. Give your life a chance. Give yourself a chance, give reese a chance and tell her to forgive me.”

Mia: “I love you.”

GGM: “I love you too. And… happy birthday, honey.”

Her voice faded. A beep beep sound rang in the air. My great-grandmother shimmered and disappeared, and I jolted awake.

I was in my bedroom. But I clearly remembered being in the lobby before I fell asleep.

Walking to the window, I looked out at the moon—it was glowing brilliantly tonight. The Strawberry Moon.

And then I saw it.

A magnificent black wolf stood on the road. Its eyes—blue, piercing, familiar. They reminded me of him. My heart skipped a beat. What was happening to me? This silly crush… when would it end?

“Happy Birthday!”

Everyone shouted together, startling me.

Mia: “You scared me!”

Mom: “We thought you were asleep. But Rebecca saw your light was on.”

Rebecca: “So we came to check—and here you are, wide awake.”
