When Cress mentioned the buddy system, I didn't think it meant for me to become joined at the hip with Kendall. Apparently, I grew an appendage and didn't realize it.

After my last class, I found Kendall waiting for me at my locker and groaned. "Why?"

Kendall leaned against the lockers with his arms crossed. "You caused this stupid mess. You just had to nail me in the boys."

I twisted the combination lock and opened my locker to exchange my books. "You earned me taking out your boys when you threatened me."

"No guy deserves to have someone take out their boys."

"They do if they don't take a no for an answer."

"Fine. I will give you that. But I didn't force myself on you."

"Is that supposed to make me feel better?"

"Yes, since I don't believe in that shit. No is no. End of story."

"You're a walking contradiction. Most bad boys don't give a shit what a girl says."

"Those aren't bad boys. They're assholes. Know the difference, Nova Scotia."

"Can we call a truce? I want to get through my senior with little issues."

"It depends if you'll play nice."

"Will you keep Cindy Lou away from me? I don't want to deal with her while trying to graduate."

"Cynthia is a pain in the ass. But she'll learn what happens when she pushes me."

"Is that a threat?"

"Nope, it's a promise."

"You sure make a lot of promises."

"I keep my promises because they're more than mere words."

I looked at Kendall and studied him for a few minutes. I've never known someone to make promises and keep them. I also didn't want to fall into a trap with a guy. Give my heart to him, have him break it, and all that jazz.

"If you don't believe me, I'll show you."

I raised my brow and wondered how Kendall would show me.

I really need to stop asking these rhetorical questions. They do nothing to help my situation.

Kendall had dragged me to his bike, set me on the back, and drove to a house. We got off his bike and walked to the front door. The house was a two-story farmhouse.

"What?" Kendall asked me.

"I figured you lived in a mansion."

"This isn't my house." Kendall rolled his eyes and entered the house.

I followed him to a spacious living room with Ares and Gael hanging out in the living room. "Where are we?"

"You're at my house," Ares said.

"I didn't take you for a farmer."

Ares rolled his eyes. "I'm not. My parents chose this place since my old man bought it before I graced everyone's presence. So, what are you becoming besties all of a sudden?"

"Who says we're besties?"

"Word travels fast when Cress shows up at school."

"Does this have anything to do with nailing Kendall in his boys?" Gael asked.

"Why would you assume the ball incident has anything to do with why I'm here?" I asked.

"You nailed Kendall in the boys. Cress came to school. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what's up." Gael shrugged.
