Nova

Kendall helped me pack my stuff and bring it home. A home, I'm not sure I have. He pulled up to the clubhouse where everyone was waiting. I sat in the car's passenger seat but didn't get out.

"Nova?"

I looked out the car door window. "I don't belong anywhere."

"What?"

I looked at Kendall. "I realized I don't belong anywhere when I landed in that little town without anyone. I never had an actual home. My dad raised me in the clubhouse around his brothers and the club whores. I stayed with Aunt Wren, but it wasn't my home. The house you brought me to was your first home. The minute we have problems, I leave without you searching for me."

"That's not true." Kendall shook his head.

"Isn't it?" I looked at Kendall before laying my head against the car window.

"Nova, you are my home. Wherever you are, that's where I am."

I lifted my head and looked at Kendall. "What?"

"You're my home. Not seeing you the past three weeks almost killed me. It almost caused Grey to go feral. But we have bigger issues."

"What's that?"

"You stood up to the moon goddess, which has never happened in our history. If you don't believe me, look."

I looked through the windshield to see everyone standing outside on the clubhouse's porch. They hadn't approached the car but studied me cautiously.

We got out of the car and approached everyone. I noticed Kendall kept a respectful distance between us. It was close enough, but not enough for him to touch me. People moved out of our path while staring at me. Then, I saw Genesis.

"It seems we have a lot to discuss," she said with a smile.

"I guess so." I shrugged.

We entered the clubhouse and headed to the main area before taking a seat. My dad and Cress sat in chairs while everyone gathered, and Genesis sat across from Kendall and me.

"I don't think anyone realizes how powerful you are," Genesis told me.

"They told me I'm a blessed wolf with abilities. That's about it." I shrugged.

"Oh, you're more than a blessed wolf with a few abilities. You're a powerful wolf."

"How so?" I lifted my brow.

"The moon goddess has her children, but she has a familiar, like what witches have. They're spirit animals. They carry the same power and energy as the moon goddess, but they're only born every hundred years. You're the moon goddess's familiar."

"What does a moon goddess's familiar do?" My dad asked.

"They help the moon goddess with her children. They also watch for enemies and protect innocents from harm. They're stronger than alphas for that reason alone. They don't help lead the pack. They ARE the pack."

Everyone snapped their faces to me. I blew air past my lips because the moon goddess has jokes.

"It doesn't explain why Nova disappeared for three weeks," Aunt Wren said.

Genesis sat back in her seat. "The moon goddess was testing Nova to see if she would cave to her situation like most people would. Nova proved she wouldn't." Her lips curved slightly before looking at Kendall. "You have a powerful mate who requires an equally powerful mate. You will balance Nova as you both move into your next roles. But first, Nova must endure training."
