Nova
If looks could kill, I would turn to ash at this moment. Eh, what else is new? I've gotten that look from my dad's brothers a billion times, especially Road Dog. He's still miffed about my joyride on his bike.
Kendall looked like he wanted to burn me to the ground until Riley yelled at him about Ares. I sat on a desk, my hands resting on the edge, and swung my legs. Kendall and Riley argued, but Kendall confirmed what I said.
Riley plopped into a seat dejectedly. Can you blame her? Someone fucked with her life. Not me, but someone did.
Kendall looked at me hard, hands on his waist. "Why would you tell her?"
"Why not?" I shrugged.
"It wasn't your place, Nova."
I raised a finger. "See, that's where you're wrong. As future Luna, it is my place to tell the truth to pack members. You can't protect someone if you withhold the truth from them. My dad is a prime example of that terrible decision."
"You're not the Luna, though."
I looked at Kendall, nodded, and slid off the desk. "Fine. I hear you loud and clear." I walked away as Kendall yelled my name. I flipped him off since he made his choice.
I didn't bother to stay in school. Nope, I went to the house and packed my shit before dragging it to Aunt Wren's house. Kendall can suck a dick and choke on it for all I care.
I unpacked and put my clothes away until I had everything where I wanted it. My phone rang several times while I ignored it. I'm not the girl who throws a fit or whines about her problems. I focus on my future, which I intend to do now without a mate.
Someone knocked on the bedroom door.
"Who is it?" I asked while deciding which homework assignment to work on.
"Open the door, Nova," Cress said.
I groaned and opened the bedroom door. "Can you make this quick? I have a lot of work to make up for my classes."
"Kendall told me what happened?"
"Yeah, and?"
"You won't last if you keep throwing a tantrum."
"I don't intend to last at all."
"What?" He folded his arms and lifted his brow.
"You heard me." I shrugged. "People like yourself assume I'm throwing a tantrum. I'm not. This is where people make their mistake with me." I raised my finger and wagged it at him. "I don't care about titles like most girls. It's not my endgame in life. I have goals that I plan to achieve. Your son hasn't realized that I'm not going to let girls touch him while he does nothing to stop it. If he wants someone else, he can have them."
"What game are you playing?"
"It's not a game, Cress." I rolled my eyes. "I'm not going to let a guy dictate my life while he does whatever the hell he wants. Kendall made it clear that I'm not a Luna. I accepted it. Now, can I get back to my schoolwork?"
"You're serious."
"Like a heart attack."
Cress nodded, turned, and left. I shook my head and closed my door. I pulled out an English paper and started working on it. I'm good with focusing on school while everyone else focuses on themselves.
******
People thought I was throwing a snit when I accepted Kendall's decision. Why do I need to beg a guy for anything? Thanks to everyone else's decisions, I got dragged into a life I didn't ask for.
