How can a girl think clearly when she has a hairy beast laying claim to her? I had to lose the mutt so I could have a moment's peace. I heard snickering and glanced around the dark closet I was hiding in.

"Who's there?" I whispered. Please let it not be the stupid mutt.

"You should know me," the voice said.

"Who are you?"

"I'm your wolf, stupid."

"Wait. Did you just call me stupid?"

"Yes, because you keep talking out loud. You need to learn a few things for someone who doesn't want her mate to find her."

"Okay. How do I talk to you so I don't appear crazy?"

"Talk in your mind."

"How?"

"Focus like you're talking to me without saying it out loud."

What do I have to lose? I focused on speaking in my mind instead of out loud. "So, you're my wolf?"

"Yes."

"I'm so confused."

"Your dad didn't raise you to understand the werewolf aspect. You're a human and a wolf. You can change into a wolf, making you a werewolf."

"I thought werewolves only existed in books or movies."

My wolf rolled her eyes. "Only because humans don't know we exist. We prefer it that way."

"Did you roll your eyes at me?"

"Yes, I did."

"Why?"

"Because you have a lot to learn."

"Do you have a name, at least?"

"Eden."

"That's simple enough. So, tell me about this whole wolf thing."

"We have mates and are loyal to each other."

"You should tell that to my stupid mate. He doesn't understand the definition of loyalty when he sucked face with Cindy Lou."

"Grey's human is a jackass, thinking that kissing another girl would get your attention. Grey wasn't happy."

"Wait. You know the idiot's wolf's name?"

"Of course, he's my mate. We talk frequently."

"Great. Our wolves get along better than we do."

"Only because we understand loyalty. But Kendall will learn it with you."

"Can't I reject him?"

"Doubtful since Kendall wants his mate. Even if you reject him, he won't accept it. And I won't reject Grey. So good luck."

"Whose side are you on?"

"Not yours with your stupid ideas."

"Eden."

Eden didn't respond to me. What the hell? Great. Now, my stupid wolf isn't talking to me. Fine. I don't need her or anyone to help me. I could figure this out.

The door whipped open, startling me while I sat on an overturned milk crate.

Kendall flicked on the light switch, stepped inside, and closed the door behind him. "Why are you in a closet?"

"I needed to think."

"About what?"

"Rejecting you." I didn't have a chance to react before Kendall held me up against the wall.
