Nova

After getting sprung from the hospital, I had to clear up some misconceptions with my crazy mate. Like him changing his mind about not wanting to be a part of the MC. We also needed mediators since Kendall keeps giving me whiplash.

So, I picked my dad and Cress as tributes. Since they're presidents and alphas, they get to enjoy playing mediators. Aunt Wren and Tabby kept score. We sat around the living room to discuss the matter. Well, more like arguing.

Kendall and I argued each point, with Kendall losing each time. My tally was now fifty to zero. Cress and my dad sat in chairs, looking unamused.

"A guy has the right to change his mind," Kendall said.

"Not when said guy keeps bouncing back and forth on his position. First, you tell me you don't want this lifestyle. Now, you tell me you do. The next will be you want to work a 9-5 office job," I said.

"Yeah, please don't. Raven is already dating Bob," Aunt Wren said.

I pointed at Aunt Wren. "See, she gets it."

"Arguing is getting us nowhere and giving me a fucking headache. What made you change your mind, Kendall?" Cress asked.

"I realized how important an alpha's job is to protect the pack when Larsen took Nova. He slipped in without anyone noticing. I don't want that to happen again," Kendall said.

"That means Nova needs to start training."

"I agree."

"Wait. I get to kick ass and take names?" I asked.

"Yes, Nova," Aunt Wren said.

I pumped my fist several times.

"It does not give you leeway to beat a bitch," my dad said, ending my impromptu celebration.

"Why must you rain on my parade?"

"Nova, you can't beat someone when they look at you the wrong way. It'll cause problems in the pack."

"Pft, I would only beat someone if they started shit with me."

"That's what concerns me."

I rolled my eyes since I have more restraint than my dad realizes.

"Nova will be fine. Unlike me, who had no idea this world existed because I was a human before I became a wolf," Tabby said.

"Oh, this I got to hear." I leaned back, arms folded, and smiled.

Tabby recounted her history with Cress. The shock collar was a nice touch. So was the flea shampoo. I'm sorry, but I laughed out loud when Tabby told us how she got even with Cress for what he did. Cress wasn't laughing. Well, don't piss off a woman.

"Since Nova and Kendall aren't having a mating ceremony, why don't we have a birthday party?" Aunt Wren said.

"It's not a bad idea. We could get both packs together," Tabby said.

"Do you mean like an official announcement for Nova?" My dad asked.

Aunt Wren nodded. "Every alpha wolf who turns eighteen should have an official party. Mom and Dad had one for Raven and me when they announced us to the packs, if you remember correctly."

"Wait. What do you mean announcement?" I asked.

"When an alpha and their mate recognize each other, they celebrate different stages of their mate ship. The first is the official mating and marking ceremony. An alpha will mark their mate on their mate's eighteenth birthday, then mate with them after announcing their acceptance. Next is when they have their pup or pups. They have a party to welcome the future alpha to the pack. Those are for the males. The announcement ceremony is for female on their eighteenth birthday. That's when they can officially recognize their mates. It also gives the unmated males a chance to claim the female."
