Nova
Kendall and I headed to his parents' house to talk to his mom. I still wondered why they needed a massive house. Do you realize how long it would take you to clean a home this size?
"Will you stop asking how long it will take to clean this house?" Kendall asked across the car roof.
"I can't help it. This house is massive, and will you stop intruding on my thoughts?"
"No, I like to know what you're thinking," Kendall smirked until his smirk turned into a frown.
I smirked.
"That's not funny, Nova."
"That will teach you to invade my privacy."
Kendall glared at me while I laughed. I thought of Kendall dressed in a tutu, wearing a sparkly crown while he pranced around in front of the club. He didn't like my idea. He shouldn't invade my privacy if he doesn't want those disturbing thoughts—his fault.
We entered the house and searched for Tabby. We found her in the kitchen, making food.
"I thought Nova was training," Tabby said, stirring tomato sauce in a pot.
"Kendall got jealous and beat Harley to a pulp. Cress called it so I could catch up on missing assignments," I said, sliding onto a chair at the counter.
Tabby glanced at Kendall with an arched brow.
Kendall rolled his eyes, grabbed drinks for us, and joined me at the counter. "Raven distracted Harley, giving me an advantage."
Tabby shook her head, turned the heat down on the stove, and leaned on the counter across from us. "What's up?"
"We need to ask you about the situation with Ares and Riley."
"What about it?"
"Why did you stop Dad from killing Ares?"
"Because it wasn't Ares's fault for what happened."
"How so?" I asked.
"Before I ripped the whore's head off, she said she won."
"That wasn't the answer I was expecting."
Kendall and I exchanged confused glances.
Tabby leaned on the counter with one palm and her other hand on her waist. "Cress had issues with his brothers and their Ol' ladies when he introduced me to the pack. I was a human mated to an alpha. They didn't like that. Since I was unaware of this world, they took advantage of my ignorance. Once Cress turned me, they couldn't use the same tactics against me. They resorted to drugs to cause problems."
"So what happened?" Kendall asked.
"I reviewed the security footage the following day, saw a bitch slip something into a drink, and give it to Ares. He drank it without realizing she had drugged the drink. I had planned to tell your dad when Claudia called me in a panic. Cress had shown up at her house and attacked Blaze and Ares. He would have killed Ares if I hadn't shown up and tranq him."
"Yeah, but Dad had the right to put Ares down for what he did."
"While that's true, Ares didn't choose to cheat on your sister. The drug the bitch slipped him shuts down the part in the brain that controls judgment and inhibitions. They lose control of their bodies and act out of character. Gen ran tests and found traces of the drug in Ares's system. It was a mess between your dad and Blaze. Your dad's job is to protect the pack, while Blaze was trying to protect his pup."
"That's what makes you an excellent Luna," I said.
"That's what you'll learn before you step into the role when I retire. Contrary to popular belief, our jobs don't consist of throwing parties and dressing in fancy clothes. We keep our mates from losing their shit and handle issues within the packs. We also oversee the budget and other business aspects. Cress and the brothers handle club business while protecting everyone."
