Meeting the Hanleys

I sit on campus at lunch, eating tiny bites of food at a time, lost in thought until Daniel walks over to me with some cute boy I don't recognize.
"Hey Alex..." I glance up for a second before looking back down at my food
"Hey." I reply. Daniel sighs and he and his friend sit down next to me. I look at him hoping my eyes look more like a glare then sad puppy eyes.
"This is my friend, Mason." I look at Mason
"Hi."
"Hi." My cheeks flush. This whole thing is so awkward! Then Daniel speaks again
"How are things with your mom?" I scoff
"I ran away." mason and daniels eyes widden.
"Why?!" They say at the same time. I shrug
"Because of her we had to break up. we hadn't been together for two days." I look at Daniel and roll my eyes. "the whole things just stupid." I glance at mason and see him smiling.
"What's so funny?" Mason shakes his head like he's silently laughing
"Alex, Daniel told me what happened so we came up with a plan."
"Oh?" Sounds like the typical high schooler
"I have an extra guest room at my house and my parents already said it was okay if you stayed there. but uh...we kinda told then your parents died." I shrug my shoulders
"I would but I just met you and-" Daniel interrupts me
"Alex you have to! I know Mason and he's really awesome. you can trust him and his family." I laugh
"Your cute when you beg." I say glancing at his red cheeks. I sigh and fold my hands in my lap.
"I guess I don't really have a choice?"
"Nope!" The chorus I look at both of them, my lips pressed together.
"I guess...I'll stay."
