I gasp when I see the cake on the table with a picture of a horse jumping printed on it.
"Mason it's gorgeous!" I say smiling. Mason smiles back and I jump slightly when his hand brushes mine. he grabs my hand and squeezes it as the doorbell rings. "I got it." I say as I yank open the door. I freeze when I see two police officers and my mom. the officer speaks.
"Are you Alex?" I nod stiffly. "we need to ask you a few questions." I bite my lip, my eyes wide
"Uh yeah come in." I say stepping aside. my mom comes in after the officers and smiles. I don't return her smile. I walk in after them and shut the door. I walk into the kitchen and find Mason staring in shock at the officers with his mom close by.
"What's this about?!" Cassandra says, her eyes furious. the officer clears his throat.
"We will explain everything momentarily. but until then you have the right to remain silent." she glares at him and crosses her arms. i should of known my mom wouldn't let someone else adopt me. I sit down and the officer doesn't waste anytime.
"Do you know this women? She claims she is your mother." I look at my mom and back at the officers, my eyes wide and serious.
"No. I do not know her." I am surprised at how steady my voice is. the cop continues
"Is she your mother?" I know what I have to say. I look at my hands then back up at the cop.
"No. My parents are dead."
