Luka didn't mind the general. He was like Papa. He knew he was giving orders, but he never hurt anyone. His team he was put on, were a bunch of rough men, who were not happy about their assignment with a bunch of children. The children were fitted with Earth military gear and were brought to their team as they stood at a gateway portal. Luka recognized it as the one he had entered the world he was in now from. The men also in Earth military gear and not their hard armor stood smoking a cigarette in front of the gateway. The commanding officer looked at the children. "Listen now you little maggots. Don't get in the fucking way." He stated as he flicked his cigarette at the kid standing to the right of Luka. It dropped to the ground as the men put their helmets on. They walked through the portal as the children followed.
They entered a place on earth. It seemed like a jungle. The boys could hear enemy fire around them as the men did nothing to help the boys and continued on in silence as they moved along. The boys could hear they were getting closer to the gunfire. They were scared, but they couldn't stop. The six men group slipped into pairs as each pair grabbed a few of the boys and moved along. Luka got stuck with the commanding officer and his sniper. Two other children were with him as they moved through the dense forest, avoiding being spotted and avoiding rounds of bullets all around them.
The two men finally stopped. Luka could see a building a distance away. The men started to set up as they got ready to take their target out. "What are we supposed to do?" One of the boys whispered. "Shut the fuck up and stay out of the way." The commanding officer whispered back. The men watched as the sniper kept an eye waiting for the right moment. The boys had been briefed on the target before they left for the mission. They watched quietly as the men waited, but there were a lot of people in they could see through the window. "I'm not going to be able to take the shot. There are too many others in there." The sniper whispered. "You're going to get the fucking shot so we can go back home. I fucking hate Earth." The commanding officer demanded.
The sniper kept attempting to make the shot, but someone always stepped in the way. They heard a shot from behind them ring out as they watched their target drop to a chest shot. They looked back as Luka stood and dropped his gun down. "Did you just take that shot, you fucking maggot?!" The commanding officer shouted as he grabbed him, and they started to run. They had men and dogs after them as they ran for the extraction point. They radioed for the gateway as they started to see a blue glow before they escaped. The commanding officer sustained a gunshot wound to the back of his right shoulder. The gateway closed. The commanding officer punched Luka hard, knocking him out.
Luka woke in the general's office. He was sitting in a chair. The commanding officer shouted and was irate over the situation. General Bettendorf kept calm as he listened to the commanding officer. He finally put his hand out. "Colonel Mueller, it seems that the mission was successful. The target was taken out and the only injury happened to be yours. I asked you to train them, not tell them to fuck off." General Bettendorf stated as he looked at Colonel Mueller. The Colonel had nothing to say after he was confronted with his actions. "Please leave my office. Novak, you stay here." General Bettendorf said as Luka was still dealing with his concussion, blood still dripping from his nose.
