"I've tried many times to see it in a new light, see it from their perspective. I just don't understand how we can just allow these...things to live alongside us." The woman being interviewed stated, "I don't want my children to be going to school with people that will hurt them." Stella tilted her head as she watched the television, the sound of bacon frying on a pan in the kitchen was in the background. Stella tried her best to ignore the annoying sound as best as she could, but it was impossible. "We need a new law, a restriction, just something to keep us safe."
"Ugh. Stella, turn that shit off." Nova, Stella's older sister, walked in and grabbed the tv remote. She clicked through the news channels till a Disney movie came on. "Why can't you watch normal kid things? See, Frozen is on, watch that."
"Noo." Stella groaned, falling onto the cushions of the couch. "I hate Frozen."
"Why? It's a good movie." Nova shook her head, walking around the kitchen, putting things back into the cabinets. "We're kind of like Elsa and Anna, don't you think? Just with the roles reversed. You're the girl with powers, I'm the boring one." Nova smiled at Stella who sat up and stared at her, an unamused expression plastered on her face.
Her smile is pretty. She should do it more.
"At least you don't have to hide from society, and Elsa hurts Anna twice, I've not blasted anything at your heart or head." Stella muttered. Nova chuckled, putting the bacon onto two plates. Stella smiled from hearing her sister's laughter. Nova popped the toast out of the toaster and placed one piece on both plates, spreading butter across one and jam on the other. "I've not blasted anything at you."
"Fairpoint." Nova sighed, "I wish I had an excuse to hide away, maybe your mom and Dad would give a shit and work good paying jobs because I couldn't." She picked up both plates and walked to the couch, handing Stella the one with buttered toast and keeping the other to herself, settling down beside Stella on the couch.
"Mh. We're doing just fine without them." Stella stated, shoving small bits of bacon into her mouth. Nova hummed in response, eating much slower than Stella. Stella grabbed the remote off the coffee table and changed the channel, right to another news station. "New legislation, I'll pass... Hm."
"The government of Indigopia and several others are funding for an addition to Indigopia's high security prison, Moonlight Prison, they are adding a new section called "Project: Sunshine". Stella tilted her head, setting the remote down, Nova grunted and tapped Stella's shoulder with her clothed foot. Stella sent her a glare and let the news station play. "This new "project" is a place for people with Phenomesian mutations to be held, tamed or controled, and sent home brand new and normal." Nova sat up more, she was leaning back against the arm of the couch, now she was sitting straight, staring at the TV. Stella lowered her toast away from her mouth, slowly turning her head to look at Nova, who met her gaze. Stella gave Nova a look, asking a question in which Nova shrugged in response, a look of worry on her face.
"I'm- it's gonna be fine.. No one knows about you, it's fine." Nova assured Stella but she wasn't convinced, turning back to the TV. The man on the screen continued to talk about the topic, he wondered if caging all of them was the moral thing to do. "Some of them are just kids," he said.
"Prison is pretty extreme. Not everyone with the mutation is a threat, like you." Nova reached forward and grabbed the remote, "You shouldn't be watching that. It won't affect you, you're safe here with me." Nova changed the channel, pressing a different button and pulled up a tab. "Why don't we watch the softball game, even if it's almost over?" Nova pulled up YouTube, searched up the name of their school, clicking on the live stream. "Hey, do you remember when I used to play?"
