t/w murder, blood, death

Susie Maxwell would forever remember the day her world got turned completely and irreversibly on its head.

With her friend, May, she walked down the lane to her house. She got to the door and opened it and was immediately greeted with the sight of her parents dead bodies. Their blood was in the carpet. They had been shot through the head. And, probably worst of all, she couldn't find Ellie anywhere.

Susie didn't remember a whole lot. All she remembered was a blur of screaming and crying and next thing she knew, she was in a police department, answering "I don't know" to just about every question.

That night, they let her go home. She didn't sleep that night.

The house was in Susie's name now, but several families around town had offered to let her stay with them. She stepped inside the house. Her parents had died a week ago. Ellie had been missing for a week. She'd just left the funeral.

She made her way up to Ellie's room. She slept in her little sister's bed that night, cuddling her little sister's favorite doll.

That very night Susie decided she would stop at nothing to find Ellie.

It was not a matter of if, it was a matter of when. Plain and simple.
