BIG SMILE

This was the last time Vivie would be with her mother for god knows how long. Tomorrow morning, like Clementine had four years earlier, Vivie would be shipped off to somewhere else.

Vivie climbed into Georgie's lap. The older blonde hugged the younger gently.

"Will I ever see you again?" Vivie asked, looking up at her mother, who gently stroked her hair. "Of course you will," Georgie said softly.

"You promise?"

"I promise." Georgie smiled. "And when I see you again, I'm going to have a big smile on my face the entire time. And we're going to hug each other. And I bet Clementine will be there too."

"You promise?" Vivie asked again, to which Georgie nodded. "I promise, Viv," She answered, gently kissing the top of her daughter's head.

The next morning, Vivie was gone.

The last thing Georgie expected to see when she rounded the corner was her daughter setting up a trap of some kind.

She froze. Her blood ran cold.

Vivie glanced over at her and then did a double take. She looked shocked, her hands starting to shake. She didn't speak.

"Vivie," Georgie whispered.

Vivie still didn't speak, though she didn't look away from her mother.

Georgie took in a deep breath. "Vivie," She only repeated, holding her hand out. Did she actually expect Vivie to take it? She was reeling from two things: that Vivie was alive and that she was apparently a Flag Smasher.

Vivie just kept staring. "Hi, mom," She said quietly, her voice shaking.

"Vivie, come here," Georgie said, somewhat firm, though her voice shook. Vivie gave no response of any kind, taking a step back.

"Vivie, please," Georgie pleaded, holding her hand out again.

Vivie's breathing appeared to speed up. And then she turned and ran.

"Vivie!" Georgie shouted, beginning to chase after her. "Vivie!" She then tripped over the shitty trap Vivie had set up.

Vivie got away and Georgie was left there in shock, tears prickling her eyes.
