Susie looked down at her little sister who was meant to be her little brother in her mother's arms. Wasn't his name supposed to be Joseph instead of Elizabeth? Oh well. She'd been named Elizabeth after her aunt, who'd died when her mother was a kid. Mary, after the virgin Mary. She had the vibrant red hair of their father, that they could already tell.
"Now, Susie," Agnes began. "Me and your father were talking and we've decided you can pick out Elizabeth's nickname."
Susie looked up at her parents. "I can?" She asked to which they nodded and smiled.
"You have a lot of options," Winston told his daughter. "Elizabeth has a lot of potential."
Susie smiled. "Okay!" She then ran off to her room, but not before grabbing a piece of paper. She then spent the next several minutes in her room, writing the name Elizabeth over and over. She ruled out several nicknames.
Liz and Lizzy were too overdone, she wasn't the biggest fan of Beth, she considered Betsy and Betty but then crossed them out. She then wrote down Ellie and that's what clicked.
Ellie could work as a nickname for Elizabeth, couldn't it? She circled it, stood and ran back to her parents.
"Her nickname is Ellie!" The little blonde decreed with a smile.
Agnes looked over at her husband, who nodded and smiled. Agnes then turned back to her oldest with her own smile.
"Ellie it is," She said.
