chapter 5:

The next day I woke up early to take a long shower that turned my skin red. The pain blocked out my thoughts and I stayed in there until the water was no longer hot. I got out and changed into brown pants and a white laced long sleeve blouse. I quickly pulled my hair into a braid and went downstairs. Fred was there, drinking his watery infamous coffee and nose deep in the newspaper. "Morning." I said and grabbed my bag to leave. "Don't you want something to eat?" he scratched his bristly beard. "I'm not hungry. Besides, I have to get going." I shrugged. "Oh you sure? I have bacon in the fridge.."he put the newspaper down. "Yeah. I have to get going. See you." I half smiled and headed to the door. "Anna-." my dad stopped me. I just looked at him. "Have fun today." he said with a lopsided smile. "I will." I seriously doubted and walked out into the cool air. I hopped into the jeep and drove to school, remembering the directions. Kids were still walking into school and I got out. Denise was taking to her friends and spotted me, smiling and waving me over. I made a face meaning I didn't want to and she walked over to me. "Hey!" she said and I watched as her friends were looking at me. "Hi April. How was the movie?" I asked. She started talking about it and I found myself zoning out. After a minute I started to listen. "Yeah, Denise was the only one that really didn't think the robots were realistic but-" she said and I gasped. "Denise!" I yelled. "What about her?" April asked her eyes widening. "I was supposed to pick her up today! I might have time, I'll be a little late." I said getting into my car. "What are you doing!" April gasped. "I'm going to get her." I replied starting the engine. "Want me to come?" she asked but looking longingly at the school. "No, could you tell Mrs.Williams we'll be running a little late?" I asked. "Yeah. See you." she nodded and I thanked her and drove off. I didn't try speeding because we were going to be late regardless. I arrived at a tiny log cabin. I walked up to the door and knocked. The door swung open. Denise stood there, her short black hair in a bob and her blue eyes hidden behind glasses. "Hey Denise. Sorry I'm running late." I sighed. "Thats fine, I kind of figured since your new and all." she grabbed her bag and we got in the car. Atleast we'll miss some of first period." she laughed as I backed out. "Thats a plus." I laughed and agreed. We arrived at school and it was like the first day over again, arriving in the empty parking lot. Although there was a car parking as we parked. "I'll see you in gym." she smiled and headed a different way because her class was in a different part of the school, I headed towards the main entrance when I felt my ankle give out and I fell facefirst on the cement. I winced in pain as I felt a bump forming on my head.

Damn my clumsiness.

Suddenly, I felt something grab my arm.

I was pulled up and steadied. At first my vision was blurry, but I gained focus. Noah stood there, his muscular arms wrapped around my waist. "You okay?" he asked, his emerald eyes smoldering as I probably looked like an idiot. "Uh, yeah." I replied, I felt my head throbbing. He laughed, looking into my eyes. "You look pretty shaken up. I'll take you to the nurse." he said not losing his grip on me. "No. I hate going to the nurse." I mumbled. "Why, do band aids and peroxide scare you?" he asked sarcastically. "No. I just don't like people taking care of me." I said with honesty. He raised an eyebrow. "Well there's a first." he said and let me go. I gained my balance and shrugged. "I like to keep a low profile." I said. "I can see that. What are you doing here anyways?" he asked, looking so good in a leather jacket with a white v neck and jeans. "Picked up a friend." I said. "What's your excuse?" I asked. He laughed as I looked at him suspiciously. "I always come in a little late." he smirked. "Oh, you rebel." I rolled my eyes. He laughed and leaned up against a orange mustang. "Is that yours?" I asked examining it. It was so spotless, it almost blinded me. "Yeah that's my baby." he punched it.

"Your baby?" I laughed."

"What? she is." he said defensively with smile on the edge of his lips.

The bell suddenly rang. "Holy Crap! we've been out here twenty minutes." i said in disbelief.

"Better get to class." I said and started walking. I heard him laughing behind me.

I turned around. He was still leaned up against the mustang.

"What's so funny?" I asked.

"Nothing." he said flatly.

"Tell me." I raised an eyebrow.

"Nah, I was just thinking you were a little miss goody too shoes." he said mockingly.

I glared at him. "I am not." I said.

"Yeah you are." he emphasized.

"I'm not a little miss- you know what? You don't know me." I said annoyed now.

"I know you perfectly well." he stared at me.

"Uh, no you dont." I said and felt my anger boiling inside of me.

"Whatever you say little miss perfect." he said and triggered my emotions.

I stormed over to him, putting a finger on his chest. I found it hard to say something as we were an inch apart and I could feel his minty breath blow into my face. But I kept my argument. "Look. There is absolutely nothing perfect about me. So don't say that again asshole." I said. He didn't say anything and I didn't dare glance at him as I turned on my heels and headed back into hell.

The day went by fast, and soon it was the following morning. I got dressed, still thinking about what Noah had said to me. The nerve of him! But he appeared at my doorstep this morning, offering a ride. I agreed, but avoided talking to him. I was sill upset with him. As he started driving, i was not feeling entirely focused, when I saw something that caught my attention. It was an image, a blur. I wasn't sure what to make of it. I squinted my eyes.

It was my mother! I couldn't believe it.

"Noah-stop the car!" I yelled. "What? Are you okay?"

"Stop the car!" I screamed, opening the door as it was still in motion. The car came to a hault and I ran out, the image was gone. I dropped on my knees, calling her name. She was there- I had seen her. I had never imagined I would ever see her again. Is started sobbing. I let it all out. She was gone. It was a cold, bitter reality.

Suddenly, I felt two hands on my shoulders.

"Come on." I heard a soft voice as he led me back to the car.

On the way to school, he didn't dare speak to me. I figured he'd ask when I was less vulnerable like this.

The image of my mom stayed in my mind as we pulled into the parking lot. "You okay?" He finally asked.

I just opened the door and walked away from him, my mind spinning.
