Chapter 12:
I stumbled back to the house, feeling like a lovestruck school girl. As I fumbled the handle, I snapped back to my jolly old self, and saw dad sitting in the kitchen, engrosed in a tennis match on the small tv rested on the shelf. "Hi dad." I said, walkin past him. "Oh, what, hi honey." he nodded, not taking his eyes of the screen. I laughed and rolled my eyes, going up to my room. I washed and changed into my pajamas, slipping under the covers. For the first time in what seem like a while, I felt peaceful. I woke up, going into my daily routine. I showered, changed into jeans and a sweater, let my hair down and ate breakfast as dad was sleep. He must have stayed up all night watching tennis. I drove to school and as I saw it in view, the familiar sad feeling came back. I parked and sighed, opening the door and getting out. I heard someone call my name. I turned and saw that one kid. What was his name? Jason. I moaned and knew there was no avoiding now as he approached me. "Hey Anna." he leaned against the car, flashing me a grin. "Hey..Jason." I said closing the door. I saw some of his friends watching from afar. I rolled my eyes but he didnt seem to notice. A few girls were giving me glares. "Want to catch a movie tonight?" he smirked. Ew. The whole seduce me thing was definitely not working. At all. "Um.."'i tried to think of answer that wasnt rude but gave him the hint I was not interested. I suddenly felt an arm link around mine. I breathed a sigh of relief. It was April. "Anna and I are going bowling tonight." she raised an eyebrow, a hand on her hip. Damn, I envied her confidence. Jason seemed a bit taken back, I was on the verge of smiling. "Oh well talk you later then.." he mumbled, stumbling away. April and I laughed in unison as he left. "Thanks for that." I smiled. "Yeah no prob, and I'm serious about the bowling." she pointed a finger. "Well.." I replied, unwilling. "No isn't an option." she crossed he arms. I gave her a look, but I knew it wouldn't work. "Fine." I threw my arms up in surrender. "Good, I'll pick you up at five." she smiled and we walked to school together. The day was boring. Class by class, stare by stare.
Denise was home sick. I saw Noah in studyhall but he left and didn't come back.
What was up with that? At the end of the day, the news had spread that I had rejected Jason, thanks to April. The girls actually stopped glaring. The day ended and I was home with dad, waiting for April to pick me up any minute. "When's the last time you went bowling?" he sounded surprised. "I mean..maybe like..I don't remember." I laughed. "You be careful!" he joked as I heard the horn honk. "Oh yeah, bowling will hurt me..dad I'm not that clumsy!" I exlaimed and kissed him on the bristly cheek, heading outside. April was in her silver Toyota, her red hair in a pony tail and blue eyes sparkling. She made every boy swoon. I got in and she took off. "You ready to meet a guy?" she asked, wiggling her eyebrows. "I'm ready to bowl." I corrected. "Trust me Annabelle. Tonight will be more that bowling." she laughed. "Ha ha. If Jason shows up, I'm screwed." I bumped my forehead. She patred my shoulder. "I'll cover for you." she winked. "Oh God." I laughed. We arrived at the white plain building in town with a picture of a huge bowling pin on it. "Not exactly like the ones in California, huh?" she asked as we entered. It wasnt bad, it had a small town vibe. Colorful walls, a few lanes, concessions, and a put put course. The blaring music gave me a headache. Ugh, why was I here! April was flirting with the guy behind the counter, so I decided to go to a lane and practice. It took me a little while as I embarrassed myself, figuring out what fingers to put in what holes. I dropped the ball and it rolled into the gutter. I scoffed and tried again. Same thing. Okay, one more time and then I would give up. I grabbed a purple ball with yellow swirls and threw it towards the pins. It hit the pins! "Nice Anna!" I saw April, carrying a ball. I laughed. "You should've seen me before." I said. She went and got a strike. How did she make it look so easy? "Hey so I got that guys number." she pointed to a cute guy behind the counter. Frankly I didn't care, but I decided to go along with it. "Good for you." I encouraged. "Thanks! He asked what you name was." she replied.
"Really." I said not interested. "Yeah I dunno.." she let a ball go and went for another, handing it to me. We played a while, actually getting into it. We talked about random things, and was happy to realize she didnt just talk about boys. It was getting later and we decided to grab something to eat at concessions. I took a seat as April ordered. Suddenly, I saw someone walking in to order something. I couldn't believe it. Noah and his friends. Then, to top if off, Jason and one of his friends. I buried my face in my hood, but Jason caught my eyes and came over, standing over me. "Hey." he smiled, rubbing my shoulders. Okay, I had enough. I stood up. "I'm here with a friend. I'm not interested. Please leave me alone." I said in a monotone voice. Noah was watching intently. "Woah babe, calm down." he grew his hands up. I scoffed and sat down. "Yeah that rack isn't nearly big enough for what I had in mind..I would've been wasting my time.." he laughed. I blew my top. My emotions cake flooding out at one time. April had rushed over, but this wasn't her business anymore. I stood up, raising my chin. "You don't talk to a girl like that stupid ass." I glared. "What'd you call me!" he yelled stepping g closer. Suddenly, Noah appeared and was in Jason's face. "Leave her alone dude." he said. "I'm so scared. Annbelles boyfriend here is sticking up. Sensitive coward." he spat. I could feel my face turning red as everyone stared. And then it happened, Noah swung his fist across Jason's jaw. As soon as that happened, Noah grabbed my hand, I grabbed Aprils and we booked it out of there. Noah hopped in Aprils car with us, since he came with friends. "Holy crap your my idol." April laughed.
"Thanks." he looked at me. I smiled."I'm glad you stood up to that bastard." Noah said to me. I felt my face flush red and I noticed the corner of his lip turn into a smile. We dropped Noah off and then she dropped me off. Could I go through one night without some sort of drama? Not likely.
