My heart literally stopped. "Dad?" I yelled, trying to keep it together.I tried feeling his chest fir the rise and fall of his breath. I struggled frantiaclly to feel it. But I couldn't. I pulled out my phone and dialed 911. Soon, there was a knock on my door. I was unwilling to leave my dads side but I got up. A police woman and two medics appeared. "Come in." I hurried them to where my dad laid. They checked him out, carried him onto a stretcher, asking me questions in process. I sat in the back of the ambulance. The medics were preparing those paddle things I had seen on television before, that brought people back to life. The thought made my stomach flip. It meant he was dead, or on the verge. Either way, I panicked. "What are those?" I asked, tears streaming down my cheeks. The medics injected some sort of adrenaline to use the paddles. I was no longer going to try to keep it together. The female medic looked at me with compassion. "A cardiac defribillator. He's gone into cardiac, most likely due to a heart attack." she said sofly. The other medic spoke. "You ready?" he asked, I heard the electrical buzz growing. I bit my lip, clenched my fists tha had turned white, and closed my eyes. "Clear." the medic said and I heard a thump. A few more times they did it. This had to work. Suddenly,

A while later after coming out of consciousness, I heard my dad's sudden raspy breathing. I opened my eyes and saw my dad, alive. He was looking down at his hands, whispering something under his breath. I took his hand and squeezed it, for wha seemed like the first time in a while. He was barely conscious on the ride there, so we didnt talk. I just felt tears streaming down my face.

We arrived at the hospital and I waited outside the door, sitting against the wall. It had hurt to see my dad like that. I hurried my face in my knees, sobbing and waited. After what seemed like a while, I felt a tap on my shoulder. "Noah?" I asked looking up at him, towering over me. I got up, aganst the wall. "Annabelle-I saw the ambulance come out of your driveway while I was on my run. I wanted to see what was going on." he scratched the back of his neck. I must have looked like a mess. My face felt red and full of tears. "My dad had a heart attack." I replied and then started crying again. I didn't look at his reaction. Suddenly, I felt his warm body against mine, and I wrapped my arms around his neck into a hug. "Thanks." I smiled against him, my tears dripping onto his gray teeshirt. The door opened and the doctor came out, scribbling something down on his clipboard. I let go of Noah and turned to him. "Whats the verdict?" I asked nervously. "Your dadhad a heart attack. I'll be putting him on medicine and he'll be scheduled for weekly visits." he said, putting a hand on my shoulder. "Do you know what caused it?" I asked. "It's really hard to say, there could e a lot of factors. Poor diet, lack of exercise, just an accident, cholesterol." he replied. I nodded. "Can I go in?" I asked. "Go right again." he smiled and left. I turned to Noah. "Can we talk later? I need to ask you something." I was still curious about his paintings. "Yeah, how about after school Monday." he said. "Okay." I replied. He said goodbye and I opened the door. Dad was laying in bed, the heart monitor going steady. He looked at me and smiled. "Dad, how are you feeling?" I asked sitting on the edge of the bed. "Never better." he sighed. I grabbed his hand. "I'm sorry dad. For everything." I said. "Honey, gong through a divorce for you must have been really hard. If anyone is sorry it's me. I shouldnt have left like that." he said. "It's not you're fault." I said and hugged him. "I love you dad." I said. There was a pause. Dad smiled. "I love you too Annie." Annie was what he used to call me.

I knew from then on that things between my dad and I would not be the same.
