It was a sunny day today, it had been lovely all day, and captain had been extremely... fumbly, well, more than normal.

He had also been treating you, reaaally nicely, like he always does but not this much, you were rather worried about him by the end of the day. 

It started this morning, you woke up to captain awake next to you, which was normal, but he was just kind of staring at you. You pulled back a bit and said, ' good morning love... you alright...?'

' hm? Oh yes, I am rather, I was just admiring you... that is ok right?'

' of course it is, sorry you just shocked me is all'

' ah.. I see'

After that rather awkward exchange he gave you a kiss on the forehead before walking out for his normal morning run.

' ... hmm, what's he up to' you wondered aloud.

You got up off the bed ( as you technically weren't IN the bed), however when you looked outside he wasn't there, usually you'd be able to see him running...

You shook your head, something was up.

You walked downstairs to the living room to head excited whispers, you heard captain say, ' yes Katherine it is... but I need you all out of the way please'

You walked in the door and raised an eyebrow, ' and why is that?'

Kitty squealed excitedly, clearly captain had told her something very exciting... which made you more curious.

' oh nothing, Alison just needs us out the way today whilst she has a clean round, this place is getting rather run down, can't have that now can we?' Fanny said abruptly.

' hm... ok then' you said suspiciously.

From that moment on, you rarely saw any of the other ghosts, you just kind of stuck with captain for the day.

And during that day, he had done nothing but fiddle with something in his pocket, making you all the more curious.

' is everything alright dear?' You asked softly.

' wha? Oh yes... quite.. shall we go outside, it's lovely, the sun is just setting.' He said, changing the subject.

' I suppose we could b-'

' wonderful!' He said before rushing outside where you followed him to the garden, which was looking quite lovely since Mike and Alison did it up.

When you looked around you couldn't see him, suddenly you heard a crack and a small pained groan from behind you, you turned around to see captain on one knee, you gasped softly.

'Y/n, I... sorry can I stand up, my knees aren't what they used to be' he chuckled nervously, you laughed and nodded, helping him up.

Once he was up, he took a ring out of his pocket, holding it in his fingers.

' James... what-'

' y/n.... When I was young, my mother gave me this and told me to give it to the person I love when I'm old enough... she said to give it to the one I saw as my soulmate... and that's you, y/n, I've known you for years and honestly, those years have been better than any time I had when I was alive, I never thought I would get love when I was alive as it was illegal, but you showed me that I could. I know... by law I can't marry but... would you do me the honor of calling yourself my husband?' Captain spoke softly, he had clearly practiced his speech as it was rather clear compared to everything else he had said today.

' I- is this why you've been acting so odd all day? Yes James! Of course I will my love... and for the record, you make my life seem like a bad dream because it didn't have you in it' you muttered.

He smiled at you before putting the ring on your finger, you couldn't help but wonder if his mother knew where his attractions lay, as this wasn't the type of ring that would be given to any woman... she must have known it would have been for a man.

Either way, you were honored to have been the one captain chose to give it to, when it was on your finger, you pulled him in for a kiss, the sun flowing down on the two of you, like the heavens approved of your love...

Even if they didn't, all that mattered was that you had each other...
