Chapter 19: Mature

"I heard from Chief Accountant that they will be here next week."

"Huh? But during our general assembly, it was announced that it will be postponed, 'di ba? Next month pa raw."

"I don't really know but let's see. For sure kung next week talaga, they will announce it in the office."

The lift opened on the 5th floor and I greeted them once again before I left the elevator. Hindi ako sigurado kung tungkol saan ang pinag-uusapan nila at hindi naman ako interesado, but it suddenly piqued my interest when I saw what was happening on our floor.

Hindi pa man ako tuluyang nakakaupo ay sinalubong na ako ni Pristine, isa sa mga kaklase ko ngayong taon na kasama ko rito sa Internal Audit Division.

"This week's gonna be hectic for us!" halos pabulong nitong wika habang nakapatong ang kanyang braso sa cubicle ko.

"Yeah, it's quite obvious.." just to prove a point, inginuso ko ang ilan sa mga empleyadong nagkakagulo. "They are fairly busy, aren't they?"

I placed my bag on the table before pulling the swivel chair. Pag-upo ko ay dumungaw sa akin si Pristine.

She placed her hand beside her mouth, afraid that someone might hear her. "They lost one of the needed documents next week. Papunta na si Chief Internal Auditor kaya nagkakagulo."

"May copy naman ang ibang division, 'di ba?"

"Hindi makuha sa Accounting and Budget Division dahil nagsisisihan ang dalawang lovers."

"Then.. should we help them?"

"No, we shoudn't! Baka tayo pa ang masisi. Kaya na nila 'yan. Empleyado na sila dito, interns lang tayo."

We stopped talking for a bit when one of the employees asked us to check the conference room. She also gave us a list of documents that should be verified in the Accounting Division.

On our way to the conference room, I noticed that the cleaners were doing their job two times harder than usual. Ang mga sulok ng office na hindi nila pinapansin dati, tulong-tulong nilang nililinisan ngayon.

"What are they preparing for?"

"Next week daw ang punta ng audit partner's team."

"Really?" hindi ko naitago ang sabik sa aking boses. "They are Auditors from Barlowe & Co., right?"

"Yes! That's why our Chief Internal Auditor wants the evidences needed by the External Auditors to be prepared by the end of the day. Ayaw niyang magkanda-letse letse ang sched next week."

"Woah.. this will be our first time seeing them."

"I know right?" nasasabik nitong tugon. "I'm kind of curious on the application of our discussion. Gusto kong makita kung paano ba talaga ginagawa ng External Auditors ang task nila."

Wow! To say that I am excited is an understatement. Ito ang isa sa mga gusto kong makita noong sinabi nilang sa Internal Audit ako malalagay. The External Auditors are from Barlowe & Co., and it's my dream firm since high school! It is one of the biggest accounting firms in the world, pumapangalawa lamang sa Dex Elthone. Dito sa Pilipinas, mas malaki ang Barlowe & Co. kumpara sa Dex Elthone.

I'll make sure that they will notice me! Kakausapin ko ang supervisor ko na kung pwede, maging assistant muna ako ng mga External Auditors habang narito sila sa firm. Gagalingan ko pa lalo next week. Kung maganda ang performance ko at kung papalarin, baka makakuha pa ako ng job offer mula sa Barlowe and Co. right after I graduate!
