Chapter 12
As soon as Mallika Sharma left, Vikrant called Jiya.
"Hello Jiya, What are you doing?"
"Nothing special; I just came from the gym. I was about to take a shower when my phone rang."
"The thought of you taking a shower has increased my heartbeat."
"Control your emotions. It's not good for your heart."
On hearing this, he started laughing.
"Okay, listen, let's go to dinner in the evening. I want you to meet my children."
Hearing this, she fell silent for a while.
"What happened? Are you afraid of meeting my children?"
"Yes, a little bit. I don't know whether they will like me or not."
"My Jiya is so good that no one can dislike her. Just meet them as friends and talk to them as you do with your peers. I'm sure they'll love you."
"Okay Vikrant. Tell me where to come; I'll be there."
"You don't need to come by yourself. My driver will pick you up."
"Okay. See you in the evening."
Vikrant was thinking about Jiya even after keeping the phone. He had never felt so attracted to anyone as he was to Jiya. Her name alone was enough to raise his heartbeat. He wanted to marry her as soon as possible so that he could spend more time with her. When Jiya reached the hotel in the evening, she saw that Vikrant was already present with his children and their nanny.
On seeing Jiya, Vikrant went to hold her hand and took her to meet his children.
"Jiya, this is my daughter Anu, my son Mayank, and this is Abha. After Neera's death, Abha has taken care of the children. She is like a mother to them."
She smiled and greeted everyone. In a short time, Jiya had mingled with them as if she were their old friend. She was sharing anecdotes from her school days with Anu and Mayank. Vikrant was happy to see the three of them laughing and smiling.
Abha felt isolated among all of them. Anu, who wouldn't leave her even for a second, hadn't looked at her even once in so long. She was busy talking with Jiya. Their closeness made her feel jealous and insecure.
Her beauty, youth, and ability to mingle with children in the very first meeting were making her feel inferior. Abha was heartbroken to see the way Vikrant was looking at Jiya. With great difficulty, she was sitting with her emotions buried deep in her heart.
They all ate together. Vikrant sent Abha and his children home so that he could spend some time alone with Jiya.
The two were sitting, holding each other's hands, on the private beach of the hotel. They were enjoying the sound of crashing waves.
"May I ask you something?"
"Yes, please."
"Why did you bring Abha along with the children for dinner today?"
"She was like a family member. She had been taking care of children since childhood. Children would have felt bad if I hadn't brought her with us."
"Have you ever been romantically involved with her?"
"No. Why'd you feel that way?"
She was quiet during dinner. I tried to talk to her, but she didn't give much response.
"It was quite possible that she was not feeling well. Anyway, she's really a nice lady. Leave Abha; talk about us. I have something to tell you."
"What?"
"Thank you. The way you talk to children has impressed me a lot. See, Anu's message has come on the phone. She wrote, "We liked Jiya. We are happy for you. Looking forward to your marriage"
I was also afraid somewhere in my heart whether they would like you or not, especially about Anu. But Anu's message has now relieved me of that fear, and all the credit goes to you.""I did what you asked me to do. I can't be their mother, but I can be their friend. Your happiness is in your children, and my happiness is in you. I can do anything for you."
Vikrant got emotional after hearing Jiya's words. He was feeling immense love for her in his heart.
"Where are you planning to get married?"
"In Goa."
"And honeymoon?"
"Wherever you want."
Vikrant and Jiya were getting closer when her phone started ringing.
"Who's phone is it?"
"My mom's."
She was about to disconnect the phone when Vikrant stopped and asked her to talk.
"Hello Jiya, It's late at night. Tell Vikrant to drop you off at home."
"Okay, mom."
"I want to talk to Vikrant; give him my phone."
Jiya gave the phone to Vikrant.
"Hello, Mr. Vikrant, Did you read the papers I gave you or not? I hope you will take a decision in favor of Jiya."
"Yes, start preparing for the wedding."
Hearing this, Mallika had a smile on her face.
Vikrant said to Jiya as soon as he kept the phone..."Even after marriage, will your mother continue to poke her nose in our personal lives?"
"Are you so upset with my mother?"
"Yes, she has spoiled the mood."
She started laughing.
"There is still time to go. If you want to reconsider your decision to marry me, go for it. Tolerating Mallika Sharma is not so easy as it seems. As a wedding gift, you are going to get a cunning mother-in-law instead of valuables."
"I am strongly against dowry. I just want a wife, not a mother-in-law."
Both Jiya and Vikrant were laughing at this joke.
Vikrant was happy to see that Jiya was not like her mother.
After a while...
"Let me drop you off at home.""I promise Vikrant that I will never let my mother come between us."
"Thanks dear."
Jiya and Vikrant were so close that their lips were busy exploring the heights of love. If there was no need to breathe, their lips would never be separated from each other.
"Let's separate for a moment to meet forever. I'll drop you off at home. After meeting you, the nights are getting shorter and the days are getting longer. I love you Jiya."
Accepted Jiya was not like her mother, Mallika Sharma, but she was her blood.
