Chapter 22
Jiya and Vikrant were married for six months. Life was moving at its own pace. Anu just celebrated her eighteenth birthday. She started going to college. The friendship between Jiya and herself was deepening day by day. Instead of sharing her personal things with Abha, she started sharing them with Jiya. Mayank was also fond of her. They often played video games together.
With the arrival of Jiya, the need for Abha in the house was negligible. Anu had grown up, and Mayank wasn't too young to need Naini's company. Seeing the children so close to Jiya, she sometimes wondered why she was living in this house when her services were no longer required here.
At night, Abha was caressing Anu's hair with love.
"Anu, dear, you're grown up now. You can take care of yourself and others in your family. I am no longer needed here. I have started looking for a job elsewhere. I will leave as soon as I get a job."
This made Anu angry.
"Aunt, if you talk about leaving this home again, I will never talk to you. Who says we don't need you? No matter how old the child is, he always needs a mother. You are like our mother to us, and Jiya is like a friend."
On hearing Anu's words, tears welled up in Abha's eyes. She hugged her lovingly. Abha was happy that her years of hard work had not gone to waste. She still had a hold on this house.
At night, Jiya was lying on Vikrant's shoulder when suddenly she got up and ran towards the washroom. She was vomiting. Vikrant was standing outside the washroom.
"What's happened? Are you okay?"
After a few minutes, she came out of the washroom fully drained. Vikrant made her sit comfortably on the bed, gave her water to drink, and started caressing her hair with love.
"Have you eaten outside food today?"
"No Vikrant. My stomach has been upset since yesterday. I thought I would be fine, but now I feel worse."
"Okay. We are going to the doctor tomorrow morning."
Hmmm.
After some time, Vikrant had gone to sleep, but Jiya was awake. She was worried that she might be pregnant. It wasn't that she didn't want to be a mother, but the problem was that she didn't want to be one so soon. She wanted to enjoy her married life without any worries and wanted to hang out with Vikrant.
There was no improvement in her condition, even in the morning. While going to take a bath in the morning, she felt dizzy and sat on the chair, taking support from the wall.Vikrant couldn't understand what was happening to her.
"Are you okay?"
"No Vikrant. I'm feeling scared."
"From what?"
"I think I am pregnant."
Hearing this, a smile came to Vikrant's face.
"What is there to fear? If that's true, I couldn't be happier. Let's go to the doctor."
The doctor confirmed that she was pregnant. As much as Vikrant was happy to hear this news, Jiya was equally upset inside. She got scared of vomiting and other health-related issues that would come as the pregnancy progressed. So many thoughts flashed in her mind.
Vikrant had left her at her mother's house and gone to the office. As soon as Jiya saw her mother, she hugged her and started crying.
"Why are you crying like that? Will you say something or only cry?"
"Mom, I'm pregnant."
"Wow! That's a great news. What is there to cry about?"
"Mom, I don't want to become a mother so soon. I need time."
"How much time is needed?"
"Maybe four or five years."
"Have you gone mad? Think about Vikrant's age, not your age. This is the perfect age to be a mother. Women feel it's in their hands to get pregnant anytime they want, but it's not. Many times, they delay their pregnancy, and when they try to conceive, nothing happens. Then they keep visiting the clinic of the doctors.
This is the perfect time for your pregnancy. God is blessing you with a child; don't try to ruin this."
Her mother's words didn't affect Jiya.
"Mom, I want to get an abortion."
Hearing this, Mallika burst out in anger.
"How dare you talk about abortion? Never ever utter this word again from your mouth. Why don't you understand that this child will make your relationship with Vikrant even more stronger? Your importance in his eyes will increase. He is going to value you more. Getting your abortion done can create a rift between the two of you, which will be difficult for you to fill. Vikrant will never allow you to do that."
"Vikrant loves me a lot, mom; he will definitely understand my point of view."
"A man does not love a woman just because of her beautiful face and body. He loves her because she takes care of his house, his relationships, and his family by giving birth to his children. This is your and Vikrant's first child, and he will never allow you to abort his child."
Jiya thought Mallika would understand her, but as usual, she was imposing her thoughts on her. She first pressured her for marriage and is now pressing for the child. The baby had not yet arrived in the world, and she was stressed. What would happen after his birth? She was afraid of pregnancy and its after effects.
She had returned home in the evening. At dinner that night, Vikrant also shared this good news with his family. Everyone was happy, but Abha was just pretending to be happy. The desire to get Vikrant was getting stronger in her mind. The birth of a child will make their relationship stronger, which will create a hindrance to Abha's desire to get Vikrant love.
