Chapter 62

Vikrant was sitting in the children's room and talking to them.

"I didn't want to do that, but I had no choice. She was threatening to defame Jiya."

Mayank was immersed in his deep thoughts.

"What're you thinking of?"

"I'm thinking about Abha Aunt. We always thought of her as our mother. I don't know why there was a feeling of insecurity in her mind with the entry of Jiya Mom into our house. Jiya's mom never said anything bad about her. She never behaved like a mother. She was like a friend to us."

"Daddy, what she did is not worth forgiving, but still, I don't like to see her in prison. After our mom passed away, she took care of us. Please withdraw your complaint and shift her to a different house. Isn't this punishment enough for her that she will have to spend her entire life alone?" Anu said to her father.

"Anu, she tried to kill Jiya. I lost my child due to that accident. If that miscarriage had not happened, you would have had one more brother or sister. Jiya could have died in that accident. She did not stop here; the mess she has made with Jiya's dignity is not worth forgiving."

"Daddy is right. Jiya's mom and dad have been away for a year because of her. When they have suffered punishment for no fault of theirs, the one who is guilty should be punished a little. Sister, if something like this had happened to you, would you have said the same thing?" Mayank asked.

After a few seconds of thought, "You're right, Mayank. I was overwhelmed with emotions. If something like this had happened to me, I would have done what Daddy did."

"Anu, I used to respect Abha a lot. That's why I didn't trust Jiya but trusted her, and she ruined our married life. All I can do is make sure she doesn't suffer too much in jail and arrange for her housing and other expenses once she is released. You both can meet her whenever you want, but the doors of my house are closed for her forever."

"You thought so much for Abha aunt; it's also a big thing, Daddy."

"Anu, Mayank I am going to Chandigarh for two to three days. Mrs. Mallika is getting married to her childhood friend."

"Wow! That's a very good thing. Can we come with you? We want to meet our baby sister, Jivika."

"Yes, you both can come, but you won't get a separate room to sleep in there. You will have to sleep on the floor in the hall and do your own chores because her house is small and there is no army of servants."

"Okay, daddy, we don't have any problems. We will do anything to meet Jeevika."

On hearing this, he started laughing. "You guys start your packing; I'll ask Rajesh to book the tickets."

Vikrant had called Jiya to inform her about the arrival of his children and also reminded her about the pink saree and chain. The flight was at eleven o'clock in the morning, and by twelve o'clock, all three had reached Chandigarh.

Aman and Mallika had come to receive them at the airport. Jeevika was in her grandmother's arms. Vikrant's eyes were searching for Jiya. On seeing him, Jeevika was ready to jump into his arms. Anu and Mayank were so happy to see Jivika that they insisted on holding her in their arms. But Jeevika was not yet ready to get out of her daddy's arms.

Vikrant asked, "Mrs. Mallika, why didn't Jiya come? I told her to come to the airport."

"Vikrant, it was necessary to go to school today. So she couldn't take leave."

"Hmmm."

As soon as the door of the car was opened, Vikrant saw Jiya sitting inside in a pink saree; the chain of Jivika's name was shining on her neck. She hugged the children. Vikrant could not express his feelings in front of everyone in the car, so he sat quietly.

"Give me Jivika; she's been in your arms for a long time." Jiya said.

Just then, Aman said, "Let her be in her father's arms; forget for a few days that she is your daughter. As long as her daddy is here, she won't even recognize anyone."

Hearing this, everyone starts laughing. They all went home and had dinner together. After dinner, Aman went to his house. Anu had shifted to Mallika's room with her, and Mayank slept on the couch in the hall.

Jiya was taking Jivika inside the room to sleep when Mallika stopped her. "Give it to me; I'll put her to sleep. Both of you relax."

"Thank you, Ms. Mallika." Vikrant said.

She smiled and took Jivika to her room to sleep.

"I was heartbroken not to see you at the airport. I thought you hadn't forgiven me yet. But when I saw you sitting in the car, that too in the saree given by me, my heart was jumping with joy. My wife's habit of giving surprises has not gone yet. Why are you not saying anything?"

"I'm trying to feel you. A year later, I see you so close. I just want to make sure this is real, not a dream. There hasn't been a single night that I haven't shed a tear in your memory. I missed you in every moment of my life that I have lived without you."

Vikrant got emotional on hearing this. Tears started falling from his eyes. It was painful for him to think that here Jiya was shedding tears in his memory, and there he used to curse her day and night for her infidelity.

"I'm sorry; I don't deserve your love. I'm really lucky to have you in my life. You loved me in every situation and accepted my shortcomings."

"Neither I nor you were wrong; only our circumstances were wrong. I want to forget what happened in our past and make a new beginning with you. Will you support me?"

Vikrant had hugged Jiya tightly. A long gap of one year had ended in a few seconds. Jiya and Vikrant were reunited.
