Chapter 56
Vikrant was excited to see Jiya and his daughter and was also a little nervous about her reaction.
He entered the room without knocking on the door. There was a dim light in the room. Jiya was lying on the bed with her daughter. She thought her mother was there.
She asked, "Who came at this hour mom?"
"Vikrant."
"What has happened to your voice, and why are you suddenly taking Vikrant's name?"
As soon as Vikrant switched on the light, Jiya screamed the moment she saw him.
"Vikrant, is this you?"
She was constantly looking at him as if trying to believe he was standing in front of her, not his ghost. It was a big shock for her.
Her screams woke up Jeevika, and she started crying.
She lifted Jivika in her arms and touched Vikrant's face to see if he was actually standing in front of her or if she was dreaming with open eyes.
"Jiya, it's not my ghost; it's me actually standing in front of you."
She wasn't in a position to say anything. She was feeling the joy, the tears, the anger, and the pain of seeing him after such a long time.
As soon as Vikrant put his hand forward to hug Jeevika, she immediately went into his arms and started smiling.
"What's her name?"
"Jivika, we lovingly called her Jivi."
Vikrant was happy to hear the name.
"Jeevika's name includes both of our names."
"Hmmm."
"My daughter is so beautiful, so chubby. She looks just like me."
Vikrant got emotional to hear the word Daddy from Jivika's mouth.
"How did she recognize me?"
"Look around the room, and you will find the answer."
There were pictures of Jiya and Vikrant everywhere on the wall, along with Anu and Mayank.
"She knows everyone in the family."
Jiya's love had left him speechless. Despite all this, his daughter recognized him and came to his arms. What can be a bigger proof than this that Jiya still loves him as much as she did before? She did not let the stress in the relationship affect the child. This further increased his respect for Jiya.
"Now, please give her back to me. I will make her sleep. I have to go to school in the morning."
"Let her stay with me for a while. You go to sleep; I'll put her to sleep."
"You should go back to your hotel. This is not a Mumbai that will stay awake all night. Leave on time, or you won't get a cab."
"I came here straight from the airport. I'll stay here only."
"Vikrant, your servants are not here to serve you. You will not find comfort of your bungalow here. It is better for you to shift to a hotel."
"I will manage; don't worry about me."
"Okay, then you go to the hall and sleep on the couch."
"No, I'll sleep with my daughter."
When Jiya extended her hand to take Jeevika from Vikrant's lap, she turned away and clung to Vikrant.
On seeing this, he started laughing, and Jiya got angry.
"For nine months, I have kept you in my stomach, spent sleepless nights, and now you are clinging to your dad, who just got to know that he has a daughter.
You want to take care of your daughter, so please do so. If something happens, don't wake me up."
Jiya was happy in her heart to see Vikrant playing with Jivika. It was comforting to think that, at least, Jivika was getting her father's love.
Jiya had gone to sleep, but Jivika was not ready to sleep yet. After playing for a while, she started crying. Vikrant tried to calm her, but still she was crying. She also started to smell a little bad.He woke up Jiya.
"Jivi is stinking. Please get up and clean her."
"There's a bag on the side of the table. It has her diapers and wipes. A few hours ago, you were so eager to take care of your daughter, so now that you have a chance, please change her diaper."
"I can't do all this. Please you change her diaper."
"There's no age to learn. If you really love your daughter, then take care of her. The mother has not taken the contract of changing diapers, and the father also has the duty to change."
Jiya turned her back in anger and went to sleep. Poor Vikrant; he had never changed the diapers of Anu and Mayank. There was Neera in the house, and after her death, Abha took charge of them. Somehow, he closed his nose and changed her diaper.
She continued to cry even after changing her diaper.
"Jiya I have changed her diaper, then why is she crying now?"
"She must be hungry Vikrant."
"Where's her milk bottle?"
"It's in the kitchen. Go and get it."
""Where's the kitchen now? How will I know?"
"This house has just two bedrooms. If you go outside, you will see the kitchen yourself."
Vikrant started searching for the bottle in the kitchen, but he could not find it anywhere. When he came back to the room, Jivika was sleeping while drinking her mother's milk.
"Why did you lie?"
"Speak softly, otherwise she'll get up."
Vikrant made a scowling face and quietly lay down next to Jivika. In a few hours, he had understood that raising a child was not an easy task. He was tired all day and fell asleep. When he woke up in the morning, a big smile came on his lips to see Jivika sleeping with him.
He was about to kiss her, but Jiya stopped him. "Don't kiss her now; she will wake up. Once she is awake, she will start crying and won't let me go to school. You can order whatever you want from outside. You will not get breakfast here like you get in your house.
Don't disturb mom with your chores, and don't take Jivika out of the house. I have allowed you to come closer to my daughter by trusting you. I hope you won't break my trust."
"Jiya, I have come here to take you and Jivi. Let's go home."
Hearing this, she started laughing. "My house? If that were my house, I wouldn't have been here today. Vikrant, the house I am currently living in, is my home. No one can take that away from me.Let's talk about this in the evening. I'm already late for school."
She had left for school. It was not as easy for Vikrant to convince Jiya as he had thought.
