Chapter 47
"Mom, today Vikrant said that I am like you. Just like you cheated, Papa, I cheated him. What's the truth, Mom?"
Hearing this, Mallika got furious.
"How dare he say that about me? He has no right to pass a comment on my character. He himself is petting snakes at home, has no ability to test people, and is pointing fingers at me. How could you hear this nonsense about me?"
"Mom, I answered. Leave Vikrant; he is not in his senses at the moment. You tell me the truth."
"Always remember that the truth is bitter."
"I don't care. I just want to hear your side of the story."
"Your father and I had an arranged marriage. You came into our lives in our first year of marriage. Anup and I were very happy together. After you came, our relationship became stronger. Your father loved you a lot. Everything was going fine. I had no complaints about life.
Suddenly, your father started losing money in business. His business partner had cheated on him and joined hands with someone else. There was a shortage of money in the house, so Anup started drinking alcohol. Borrowers started coming to the door every day. To repay the debt of one, he started borrowing from the other.
The place of love in the house was now taken by quarrels. He started raising his hand at me for every little thing, doubting me. No matter how he treated me, he never raised a hand at you. He loved you so much.
I thought of divorcing him many times but could not because of you. I couldn't separate a father from his daughter. But I was tired of his anger and suspicious nature.
Aman was my father's friend's son, and we spent our childhood together. We became good friends, but after some time, his father was transferred to another city. We wrote letters to each other for a few years, then became busy with our own lives and lost touch with each other.
One day, he met me in the market. Obviously, when two old friends meet, they are going to talk. Your father misunderstood this and accused me of being characterless. He started maligning my image everywhere. He even called my father to say the wrong things about me.
In anger, he took me and you with him. A few days later, your father committed suicide.
I was not the reason for his suicide; it was the debt he was unable to repay. Because of the same debt, I had to accept Vikrant's proposal.
Being Mallika Sharma is not as easy as it looks. After a few months, my father died. It is not easy to raise a daughter for a single woman. Wherever you go to work, the person thinks about taking advantage. I'm not scared of anyone. I have lived my life and will continue to do so.
I don't care what the world thinks of me. They call me a gold digger, but I want to tell you that in today's world, everyone is wise. A person will marry only when he has a strong reason to do so.
There was so much hoopla about yours and Vikrant's marriage, but you both know what the truth was. They labeled you a gold digger and a Vikrant pervert. It's people's favorite pastime to talk about other people's lives. So stop worrying about their opinions. We can't keep everyone happy, so it's better to keep yourself happy.
Jiya, Anup may not have been a good husband, but he was a good father. So don't have any bad feelings for him. Teach your child the same. Whatever may have happened between you and Vikrant, maintain the good image of his father in front of him. Vikrant is not bad at heart; just like you, he is also a victim of Abha's conspiracy."
Hearing this, Jiya got emotional. She hugged her mother and cried.
"I'm sorry, I misunderstood you. You're the best mom in the world. Yes, I am like my mother, and I am proud of it."
Vikrant did not attend the office for several days. He was lying in the room due to his ill health. The hair had grown, and the face had lost its sheen. Within a few days, he started looking old. It was a good opportunity for Abha. She went to his room on the pretext of talking about the children.
"Vikrant Just look at yourself. At least think of your children. What would they think if they saw you in this condition? Jiya has left you, but you have your kids. You have to live for them. Forget about her and move on. Go to the office and do your work."
Anu was standing outside Vikrant's room, listening to and watching Abha's conversation. She had taken Vikrant's hand in her hand while convincing him. He was holding her hand. Vikrant was so immersed in his grief that he did not pay attention to this gesture from Abha. As soon as Anu came, Abha held back her hand.
"Abha aunt is right, dad. Get out of this room and start going to the office."
" Anu, sit down and talk to your dad; I have work downstairs."
"Okay". Anu closed the door as soon as Abha left. "Dad, why has Jiya suddenly left the house, and why didn't you stop her from leaving?"
"I don't want to talk about her; she's dead to me."
"Dad, I need to know the truth. I won't leave without hearing the truth."
"So listen, she turned out to be a character-less girl. In my absence, she was having an affair with Rahul."
"What?" She was shocked.
"Who told you this?"
"Someone had sent me a CD of her illicit desires."
Anu couldn't believe her ears when she heard that Jiya could have an affair with Rahul. She was shocked that she could not speak a word for few minutes. She still found it hard to believe.
When she was feeling so hurt about Jiya and Rahul's affair, it was difficult to imagine how much pain his father must have felt seeing them together in the CD. She hated her as much as her father did.
