"He said it looked something like this." Kie held the drawing out in front of Sarah and Scarlett. "That's fifty feet down, and they're using one hundred feet of rope. So I guess this little wagon will go... straight to the gold room."
Sarah and Kie began to laugh as they stared at the drawing of what the boys planned to get for gold out of the well.
"Who drew this?" Sarah laughed as she stared at it.
"Who do you think?" Kie laughed along with Sarah as she looked over at Pope.
Scarlett was too tired and she was falling asleep next to Sarah in the back of the van. Despite being happy about finding the gold, last night when the twins went back to Tannyhill, Scarlett couldn't fall asleep. All the memories come flooding back to her when she's not distracted by other things. When she's left to deal with her thoughts.
She slept in Sarah's bed with her because she couldn't sleep in her own. She can't even look at her bed without crying and feeling everything all over again. His hands on her, her screaming for help, him threatening her. Everything comes flooding back when she's in her room.
She didn't fall asleep at all because she was afraid of having another nightmare. At this point, she hasn't slept in almost a day and a half.
"Kie! This better work." JJ's voice woke Scarlett up as he walked over to the van. She only had about a minute of sleep before she was interrupted.
JJ threw the gold bars on the floor of the van in front of Kie. "We can't pawn this if there's a giant wheat symbol on it." He told her.
"It's gonna work." She told him as she picked up her fire blower thingy.
"Hell of a job melting it down, Dr. Frankenstein," JJ told Kiara as he hopped out of the Twinkie while holding the gold that Kie melted down.
"Like you could've done better." She fired back at him as everyone else climbed out of the van.
"I could have." He argued with her in full confidence that he would've melted the gold down better. "I took a welding class."
"When?" Kie squinted her eyes at the boy.
"Whoa, whoa. Hey. Sh!" John B interrupted their argument. "Chill out, okay?"
"Easy for you to say. You're not the one that has to pawn this piece of shit off." JJ held the gold up.
"Yeah, how'd we get this job anyway?" Scarlett questioned everyone as she stood next to JJ. The couple was assigned by their friends to be the ones to pawn the gold.
"'Cause you guys are the best liars," Pope told them as everyone entered the pawn shop.
"Afternoon, ma'am." JJ greeted the woman at the counter.
"Afternoon." She stared at all of the teenagers.
"We see you buy gold." Scarlett walked up to the counter with JJ as everyone else scattered around the shop.
"That's what the sign says, don't it?" The older lady looked the couple up and down, clearly not believing that they would have any sort of gold to pawn off.
"Well, I sure hope you buy a lot of it, because we're about to blow your mind." JJ took his backpack off and laid it on the counter, searching through it to find the gold.
"I ain't got much mind left to blow, so have at it." She told the teenagers.
The blonde boy pulled out the gold and placed it on the counter in front of the lady. "How about them gold apples?"
