You and Louis didn't really understand the whole "babysitting" title of what Violet was telling the two of you to do. It was mostly just watching a kid sleep.. which was awkward.
You and Louis were just sitting on the ground, chatting the entire time. Random stuff, sad stuff, happy stuff, anything you two could think of. Of course, you guys were whispering.
"I miss hair ties." You blurted out.
"Hair ties?" Louis laughed.
"I miss putting my hair into fun styles, or doing other peoples hair." You explained. "Remember? I used to put my hair in braids, pigtails, ponytails, buns, all of that when I got to Ericson's."
"Oh, yeah!" Louis remembered. "You used to put my hair in a pony tail all the time! And when you got to Ericson's, you pulled out, like, 26 packs of hair ties."
"Yep! Sucks that they're all gone now.. Maybe we can find some eventually. If we looked hard enough." You smiled.
He sighed dramatically and shook his head. "We need to clean this place. Re-model it and stuff.. it's all gross and dirty." Louis complained.
"Well, I guess that's an end-of-the-world thing." You laughed. "But, yeah, we do. I'd love just.. a regular house. Not a school, not a dorm, a house."
"I'd love that." Louis agreed. "I remember before I got sent here, my parents were working on a house together."
"What did it look like?" You asked.
"I.." His expression turned slightly sorrowful as he averted his eyes. "..I never got to see it."
"Oh.." You looked to the ground. "Well, what would you want it to be like?"
"I'm not sure." Louis rubbed his neck. "Well, it's gonna be our house now, so.. how many floors do you think there should there be?"
You raised your eyebrows when you heard him say it would be your guys' house. "I, uh.. Maybe.. three? Because, y'know, you have to have space to get away from walkers, but also you could have more stuff. We could have a piano room, just for you."
Louis raised his eyebrows, then beamed his smile ear-to-ear. "I'd like that."
You smiled back, butterflies in your stomach. "Okay, but what color would it be?"
"Oh, uh, well..." Louis stumbled, trying his best to think fast. "Maybe purple?"
"Why? Is purple your favorite color or something?" You tilted your head.
"No, but you don't see a lot of purple houses. Why not stand out?" Louis happily answered.
"Of course you're saying that" You giggled, imagining the house in your head. "A purple house. That'd actually be really pretty. Like, imagine, you're walking in the woods and you just see a 3 story purple house. It'd be funny, but pretty."
"Right? A purple house in the woods.." Louis smiled, staring at the ceiling imagining the house with you. "I could definitely live there. But we need one last flourish. Something to bring it all together."
"I.. I don't know, actually." You shook your head. "You're creative. What would you want?"
Louis was silent for a moment, his gaze to the floor. "A brand new piano." He beamed, eyes still focused on the floor, worried you'd judge him or something.. "Mahogany. The color of leaves in autumn. Unbreakable and always in tune."
