Mattia POV
"Mattia we need to talk."
Not the sentence I thought would be her first now that we were finally alone. I leaned forward and pressed the button to close the privacy panel between us and my driver. Not that he would ever repeat anything he heard in this vehicle, but I found I didn't want anyone knowing whatever this conversation entailed. My bride was obviously nervous about something, her tone of voice gave it away, and I thought she would appreciate not having an audience.
"What is it Angelique. Are you nervous about what's to come? We can go at your pace and I will do my best not to hurt you. I know it's your first time, but your reactions to our previous intimate moments make me think we are very compatible."
At that she gave me a small smile before she seemed to take a big breath as if fortifying herself before she spoke.
"I can't deny I'm nervous but that's not it, I'm actually excited to take those next steps with you. What I need to talk with you about is related to the fact that you are not coming into this relationship a virgin."
I tried to interrupt her, but she held my hand in both of hers and the look in her eyes had me pausing.
"I am not mad about that Mattia. I do not need an apology for your previous partners. I know we were promised, but I am not as naïve as you seem to think. Having said that I am also not willing to jeopardise my health because of your previous sexual relationships."
I was unhappy with where the conversation was going but decided to let her finish.
"While I am coming into our marriage without risk of an STD you cannot make that claim. So unless you had the foresight to take an STD panel in preparation for our wedding night and honeymoon, I am going to need you to use condoms until you can show me that you are clean."
I felt myself rear back at her words. My new wife was accusing me of being unclean. I could feel my anger simmering. I'd tried so hard the second part of our wedding reception to make her happy, to make up for my earlier mistakes but this was not acceptable.
"Angelique...."
"I can tell by your tone of voice and the look on your face that you are unhappy, but I want you to know if the roles were reversed, I would not feel offended if you asked me for paperwork showing my clean sexual health before you were comfortable being fully intimate with me."
"I am not unclean. I have never had sex without a condom Angelique. Never. I would not put myself or now you at risk."
She was young so perhaps she hadn't given it full thought before making this request. Or maybe that friend Rachael had been in her ear about this.
"Do you kiss these other women you have sex with? Do you give them oral sex? Do you receive oral sex? You say you always wear a condom but is that also true for anal? Not just with Bess, but from any of the women you've been with over the years? You can spread disease via any body fluid, it does not have to be through penetrative sex. I know you've been with many women Mattia. Have you ever had an STD Panel done?"
Now I was furious.
"I will not talk about this with you Angelique. It is not an appropriate conversation between a husband and his new bride! How dare you speak to me this way!"
She let go of my hand and pushed herself as far from me as she could get in the confines of the back seat before folding both her arms tight against her body. As if she was protecting herself from me.
"You say it's not appropriate but I am the one who is risking my body by being intimate with you. By your reaction to my questions I'm going to guess the answer is a resounding yes."
