Chapter 27: Videos and Vengeance

Mattia POV

(6 Months Married)

As the footage started I saw my mother arrive and listened to her have a conversation with Rico and Lester about picking up some last minute items for her party. Lester was staring at her like he always did, with far too much affection and immediately agreed to her request. Rico was disagreeing with them both until she reassured him it would be fine. They were both fine to go as she and Angelique were going to be safe inside the house working on plans for the party anyway. He appeared unhappy but agreed. So far Rico's story matched up.

She rang the bell twice before using her key and entering the house. She crossed the threshold and I could hear her calling Angelique's name.

I removed my headphones and asked Dante to switch cameras to the lounge area. After a mumbled reply the feed on my monitor switched to the lounge in my home.

"Angel are you there? I rang the bell for a while and nobody answered, Rico said you were inside so I thought perhaps you were in the shower when you didn't answer."

My mother was smiling at Angelique until her face dropped.

"What has happened? Are you okay? Or is it Mattia?" She rushed to Angel's side and took her in her arms. She looked terrible. Her eyes were bloodshot and her skin had a gray colour to it. My heart began to pound thinking what could have caused her upset.

"Angel I need you to answer me. What has happened?" She was busily wiping the tears from Angel's face. Being extra gentle with her in her fragile state.

"I think I'm pregnant."

Pregnant! Nobody had mentioned anything about her being pregnant. What the fuck was going on?

On the screen my mother's face went from concerned to a huge smile.

"A baby! Oh Angel that's such fantastic news. But why are you crying? Does Mattia know?"

I saw her shake her head and my heart was pounding. Was she hiding this from me?

"He will be thrilled. I know you've been worried, but I knew it would all be okay. And on my birthday we get this news. What a gift you have given me. My first grand child."

I saw her pull Angel into her arms and crush her to her body. It was obvious Angel was still crying as my mother held her, quietly rubbing her back before making her sit up and taking her hands.

"Now tell me why Mattia doesn't know? Are you not happy? Is that why you are crying so much?"

I felt myself frown at the thought of Angel not wanting my baby and saw her do the same.

"I'm sorry but all I seem to do is cry today. I was just on the phone with..." she paused for a moment and I wondered whose name she was going to say. My mother didn't seem to notice she'd deliberately cut herself off, but I did. I would need to check the footage from before my mother arrived when I had a moment.

"I was on the phone with a friend from the shelter and got upset. That's why I didn't answer the door sorry, she was trying to calm me down. I don't actually know that I'm pregnant, it's just that after talking with her I realise my last period wasn't normal and she suggested it might be an implant bleed. Add in my tiredness, my crazy emotions and hunger and I'm kind of freaking out."

Angel shrugged her shoulders as if she wasn't sure what else to say.

"Your friend could be right. I'm guessing you haven't told Mattia because it's all just happened. How about we go and get a pregnancy test and then you could give him the good news at my birthday party this evening? How does that sound?"
