Our first day of school it was finally starting, gone were mine and my sister Cadys, long Treks through Africa, we could now be normal teenagers.
"Nope nope take me back too Africa" ,
"y/n don't you think you're being a bit dramatic"I couldn't help but roll my eyes at my sister Cady's nonchalant attitude. "You got in trouble for trying to go to the bathroom sis. I'm just being realistic,"
In the bustling hallway, I was absorbed in my thoughts when I accidentally bumped into Regina George, unaware of the social hierarchy I was disturbing.
Regina, annoyed, looked me up and down before speaking, "Watch where you're going, newbie. This isn't a free-for-all."
genuinely apologetic, I responded, "Sorry about that. First day, you know? Still figuring out the maze."
Regina, half-smirking, half-irritated, introduced herself, "Regina George, leader of the Plastics. You must be living under a rock not to know that."
puzzled I replied, "Plastics? Is that some sort of environmental club?"
Regina couldn't believe her ears. "You really have no idea who we are, do you?"
I shrugged, "Should I?
"Regina, raised an eyebrow.,
"Yes, weirdo, you should. Now, don't get on my bad side, or I can make high school a living hell for you." The blonde snapped.
I, still unfazed, quirked an eyebrow back, "Good luck with that. I've faced bigger challenges in the wild."
Regina, taken aback by my nonchalant attitude, couldn't help but feel a twinge of both irritation and curiosity.
I didn't see my sister for the rest of the school day, I ended up skipping lunch seeing how everyone was formed into there little Cliques, the lessons that followed weren't that much better.
I stood by the car waiting for Cady so I could drive us home. 20 minutes later she arrived, "Jeez where were you,"
"I was with some friends" she shrugs. The rest of the journey was a quiet one."Hey girls how was it"
Our Mom asks us "Great," I lied.
Mom smiled and went back to her task.
The next day at North Shore High, things weren't much better, but at least I managed to make a friend. Her name was Janice. We hit it off, talking about classes, sharing laughs, and I felt a bit more at ease in the chaotic high school atmosphere. It wasn't until later that I realized Janice was the person my sister Cady had befriended. Even so, Janice and her partner in crime, Damien, did a great job introducing me to all the cliques, including the notorious Plastics. The trio consisted of Karen Smith, a literal airhead; Gretchen Wieners, whose hair was so big it seemed to hold countless secrets, and Regina George, who was viewed as royalty in our high school.
I decided to skip lunch again that day, opting to sit and smoke under the bleachers instead. To my surprise, there was a boy already seated there.
"Are you new here?" he asked, and I nodded. "Name's Y/n."
"Aaron," he said, shaking my hand. "Do you have a light?" I motioned towards my cigarette, and he pulled out a lighter, offering it to me. "Y/n, what's your take on the whole high school drama?"
"It's like a jungle, but instead of wild animals, there are cliques and drama queens. How do you survive?"
Aaron chuckles "Survival of the fittest, my friend. Find your tribe, or in this case, your smoking spot under the bleachers"
I smirks "Seems like I stumbled upon the right spot then. Any advice on navigating this madness?"
"Don't make the mistake I did. Avoid the Plastics if you can. Regina and her crew are like the lions of this jungle – powerful and unpredictable."
—————As the second day of school eventually ended, I received a text from Cady, advising me not to wait for her and to just head home.
It wasn't until 8pm that Mom told me I had too go collect Cady from her new friends house. When I finally got there I was amazed by how big the place was, I Knocked on the door.
The door swung open, and standing before me was none other than Regina George. She looked me up and down, a smirk playing on her lips. "Are you stalking me now, weirdo?"
"Stalking you would imply I have the time and interest to follow someone so utterly predictable. Now, that's just not on my to-do list."
Regina, momentarily taken aback, could only muster an indignant glare "Then why are you here?"
I Maintained my composure "My sister. I am here to get her."
"Oh, of course, your Cady's sister.""Wait here, K, or wait, you have no other option."
With that, she slammed the door in my face. As I stood there, a mix of amusement and irritation washed over me.
2 minutes later a lady was stood on the porch, assuming It was Reginas mother, I knew how to use this too my advantage.
"Can I help you?" She asked.
I gave her a friendly smile: "Hi, I'm Y/n, Cady's sister. I was just here to pick her up."
Regina's Mom, had a warm demeanor: "Oh, of course! Come on in. Cady will be down in a minute."
I watched as Regina descended the stairs with her clique, Cady in tow. To my surprise, Regina's mom was laughing heartily at one of my admittedly bad jokes.
Regina, held a look of disbelief: "What's going on here?"
Her mom, still chuckling answered. "Y/n here has quite the sense of humor. You should've heard the joke!"
Regina, skeptical, glanced my way: "Really? I find that hard to believe."
I couldn't help but grin, playing along: "It's a special skill, making bad jokes that moms love."
Regina rolled her eyes, but there was a flicker of amusement beneath her facade.
