The lawn is packed with teenagers, music blaring from speakers set up on the porch, and the air is thick with the scent of alcohol and cigarette smoke. My heart sinks as I realize just how out of control things have gotten.
Before I can even process what's happening, Aaron storms out of the house, his face twisted with anger. He strides straight towards me, his eyes blazing with fury.
"What the hell is going on, Y/n?" he demands, his voice dripping with venom. "Your sister is out here acting like some fake, attention-seeking brat, and it's embarrassing."
I'm taken aback by his harsh words, but I can't deny that there's truth to them. Cady's behaviour tonight is completely out of character, and it's clear that she's lost control of the situation.
"Yeah, I know," I reply, my voice heavy with disappointment. "She's been acting like a completely different person lately, and I don't know how to get through to her."
Aaron's anger seems to deflate slightly at my admission, but he still looks frustrated and upset. Without another word, he turns on his heel and storms off down the street, leaving me standing there feeling utterly helpless.
Just then, Cady comes running out of the house, panic written all over her face. "Aaron, wait!" she calls out, but it's too late – he's already disappeared into the night.
I step forward, blocking Cady's path as she tries to chase after him. "No, Cady," I say firmly, my voice tinged with anger. "You need to stop and listen to me for once."
She looks at me, confusion and fear flickering in her eyes. "Y/n, what the hell is wrong?" she asks, her voice trembling.
"What's wrong?" I repeat, my frustration bubbling over. "What's wrong is that you've completely lost sight of who you damn well are. you're acting like someone I don't even fucking recognize anymore, and it's tearing our family apart."
Cady's eyes fill with tears, and for a moment, I almost feel sorry for her. But then I remember all the chaos and destruction she's caused tonight, and my sympathy hardens into anger.
"I don't know what the heck is going on with you, Cady," I continue, my voice growing louder with each word.
"But this shit ends now. You need to get your fucking act together"
"Janice, Damien" I turn to them, "you deal with her, I have house too sort out."
As I storm into the house, my mind races with thoughts of how to handle the chaos unfolding outside. I need a plan, and fast, and then it comes too me.
"COPS!" I shout at the top of my lungs, hoping to catch everyone's attention and put an end to this madness.
Outside, the music stops abruptly, and the chatter of voices dies down as everyone turns to look at me, confusion and panic spreading through the crowd like wildfire.
"What the fuck, Y/n?" Gretchen's voice cuts through the silence, but I don't have time to explain myself. I need to act fast before things spiral even further out of control.
Ignoring Gretchen's protests, I hurry through the house, flipping on lights and opening doors to let in as much noise as possible. I need to make it clear to everyone that the party is over, and the sooner they all leave, the better.
Outside, I can hear the sound of footsteps as people start to scatter, realizing that the cops might actually be on their way. It's chaos, but it's controlled chaos, and I'm relieved to see the crowd beginning to disperse.
Karen comes running up to me, her expression a mixture of confusion and anger. "You can't just call the cops on your own sister's party!"
I stop in my tracks, turning to face her with a steely glare. "Watch me," I say, my voice dripping with determination. "Cady needs a wake-up call, and if this is what it takes to get through to her, then so be it."
