As I got home, I could hear my sister crying. weird I go too investigate it "why are you doing this too me I promised my friend Janice I would go too her art show" she cried out

"but binti we have had these tickets for months, you love Neil DeGrasse Tyson" I decided to help my sister out "Janice Seemed really upset Mom when Cady said she might not be able to go" Mom shook her head and smiled, "You two can stay on your own then I guess, but no fighting"

Mom's words hung in the air, breaking the tension with a hint of humour. Despite her attempt at lightening the mood, I could sense the underlying concern in her voice.

"We promise Mom," I assured her, exchanging a glance with my sister. "No fighting." Cady smiled at Mom but I could tell it was utterly fake. As Mom walked away I turned to Cady, "So are we getting food before the show" I smiled Realizing we hadn't had a normal conversation in days. "nah I'm making my way to the show" she replied dryly. okay weird, but I didn't want to start an Argument.

"Alright, see you there then, I guess," I replied, but she simply sauntered off up to her room, leaving a palpable tension lingering in the air.

I decided to head up to my room, feeling a mix of emotions swirling inside me. As I flopped onto my bed, my mind kept wandering back to earlier, when a certain blonde had put her number in my phone.

As I stared at her number saved in my phone, a wave of uncertainty washed over me. Should I message her? It felt too soon, but then again, she did say to message her. My mind raced with conflicting thoughts, each one pushing me closer to a decision I wasn't sure I was ready to make.

"Hey Blondie, so what are you going to save me under?" I teasingly messaged Regina, adding a playful emoji at the end.

"nerd" she replies back instantly.

"is that all you can come up with" I question.

"Oh, I have plenty more in mind. But you are my nerd that's why" Wow I had to double read that message. was she flirting, Regina's flurry of messages attempts to backtrack, but her initial playful remark had already sparked a glimmer of hope in my heart.

"I'm your nerd?" I smirk adding a playful emoji too it before hitting send.

"you know what I meant" she instantly replies back.

Anyway, I'm taking you out tomorrow" I send. the typing bubble hovers, then disappears until I finally get a reply back. "what makes you think I'm not busy?" she questions.

"Blondie, I know you want to come, you just don't want to say," I quickly fire back, my heart racing with each keystroke. The anticipation of her response builds as I wait for the familiar ping of a new message.

"as long as you know it's not a date," she responds. I pause, feeling a pang of disappointment, but quickly compose myself. "Don't worry, Regina. I know where I stand with you," I type out, the words feeling heavier than I anticipated, and hit send. It takes Regina a while to reply after that.

"what time?" is the message I next get,

"5pm, I will come pick you up," I message back. Regina only likes the message and doesn't respond.  but I brush it off, eager for our outing tomorrow.

The next day at school, I didn't see Regina all day. I couldn't help but wonder what kind of game she was playing, she must have been publicly embarrassed after the lunch room incident, but wouldn't avoiding school just make her seem scared? It was unlike her to shy away from confrontation.

The rest of the day passed uneventfully, and when I got home, I quickly got ready for the art show. Cady still wasn't back home, but she had mentioned she would make her own way there. I wondered what was keeping her, but I didn't dwell on it for long as I had to leave soon.

I arrived at Regina's house promptly at 5 pm. As I approached the door, Regina's mother greeted me warmly. I had met Regina's mother before, so there was a sense of familiarity as she welcomed me inside.

As Regina's mother led me into the living room, she couldn't resist a bit of teasing. "You know, Y/n, Regina hasn't stopped talking about these past few days.

I chuckled nervously, not quite sure how to respond to Regina's mother comments. "Oh, really? That's, uh, nice to hear."

Just then, Regina descended the staircase, her cheeks tinged with embarrassment. "Mom, seriously?" she muttered under her breath, shooting her mother a playful glare.

Regina's mother simply grinned mischievously. "What? I'm just stating the truth," she said with a wink.

Regina rolled her eyes, trying to play off her embarrassment. "Ignore her, Y/n. She's just being her usual nosy self."

"make sure you tell me all the deets, later hunny" Regina mom announced

Regina's cheeks flushed even more crimson as her mom attempted to sound cool. "Mom, stop"

With a final wave to Regina's mom, we headed out the door, and into the car

"Will you finally announce where we are going" she questions "An art show" I smile,

"why do I feel like there is something your not telling me" she scours her eyes at me searching for an answer.

I shrugged casually, feigning innocence. "Oh, you know, just a little art show Janice is staring in Thought it might be interesting to check out."

"why you undoing your seatbelt" I question confused.

"Oh I am jumping out the car" she says coolly.

I chuckled at Regina's dramatic response, shaking my head in amusement. "Jumping out of a moving car seems a bit extreme, even for you," I teased, reaching over to help her with her seatbelt.  "if you hate it that much 20 minutes in I will take you home deal?" I say rationally

Regina rolled her eyes playfully. "Fine, I'll stay," she relented, fastening her seatbelt back in place. "But only because you promised to bail me out if it gets too unbearable."

"Deal," I replied with a grin, starting the car and pulling out of the driveway. "But trust me, you'll have a great time.
