The night was quiet as we sat parked outside Regina's house, the soft glow of the streetlights casting a warm ambiance in the car. Regina and I had been joking and teasing each other, our banter laced with a tension that neither of us dared to acknowledge."You know, Y/n," Regina began, her voice low and playful, "for a nerd, you're not half bad company."
I grinned, leaning closer to her. "And for a mean girl, you're surprisingly tolerable."
Regina chuckled, her breath mingling with mine as she leaned in closer. "Tolerable, huh? I'll take that as a compliment."
"Consider it one," I replied, my heart racing with anticipation.
We were inches apart now, our faces mere breaths away, the tension between us palpable. Regina's eyes flickered down to my lips, her gaze intense and unreadable.
and then I was doing something I never expected I would be, My body was unconsciously moving into the ice queen
hesitated for a fraction of a second before closing the distance between us, she wasn't moving away
As I leaned in closer, Regina still didn't move away. Instead, she met my advance with a subtle tilt of her head, her lips parting ever so slightly in anticipation. The moment hung suspended in the air, charged with an undeniable electricity that pulsed between us.Confusion mingled with desire as I pressed closer, drawn in by the magnetic pull of Regina's presence. Her breath mingled with mine, warm and enticing, as our lips hovered mere inches apart. Time seemed to slow to a crawl, each heartbeat echoing in the stillness of the night.
But before our lips could fully meet, the sound of knocking on the car door. Regina's mom appeared at the the passenger side door, oblivious to the moment she had interrupted.
"Regina, honey, are you coming in?" she called out, her voice breaking the spell between us. we both backed away from one another immediately.
Regina shot me a sheepish grin before turning to her mom. "Yeah, Mom, I'll be right there." She opened the car door and got out quickly.
But as Regina disappeared into her house, reality settled back in, I let out a sigh, running a hand through my hair as I leaned back in my seat. Despite the interruption, I couldn't shake the feeling of longing that lingered in the air. It was clear that there was something between us, something worth exploring, but the timing never seemed to be right.
With a heavy heart, I started the car and drove off into the night, leaving behind the echoes of what could have been, and the uncertainty of what lay ahead.
The next day at school felt bizarre. My sister had left without even saying anything, leaving me to wonder how she had gotten to school. Not only that, but it seemed like everyone was suddenly obsessed with her. I kept getting bombarded with questions about her, as if she were some sort of celebrity.
The questions kept coming, like an endless barrage of curiosity. "Your Cady's sister, right? What's it like living with her?" It was like a broken record, repeating the same tune over and over again.
I couldn't help but roll my eyes at the familiar inquiry. "Oh, you know, it's like living with a celebrity," I replied with a playful grin. "Paparazzi in the kitchen, even in the bathroom, I had too be like guys do you mind I need to take a shit. The girl looked at me terrified and walked away quickly.
I smiled happy I scared her off. As the bell went I joined Janice and Damien at our lunch table. "Why is it so quiet?" I asked, plopping down on the bench. Before they could answer, they quickly hushed me, their eyes locked onto something behind me.
I turned to see what had caught their attention, and there she was: Regina George, heading over to her usual table with an air of confidence that seemed unshakable. It was like the entire cafeteria held its breath as she passed by, her presence commanding attention without even trying.
"I'm sorry Regina but you cant sit with us." Gretchen told her.
Regina's expression shifted from confusion to disbelief as Gretchen's words sank in. The cafeteria seemed to hold its breath as Regina stood there, processing the rejection.
The cafeteria seemed to hold its breath as Regina stood there, processing the rejection. "what" Regina queried. "Your wearing sweatpants, Its Thursday" Gretchen announced.
"those rules aren't real" Regina scowled
Regina's retort was met with an awkward silence from the table, as if Gretchen's words had struck a nerve. Regina's façade of confidence wavered for a moment, revealing a vulnerability that I had only since seen yesterday."it was real that day I wore a vest" Karen chimes in.
"because that vest was disgusting" Regina raises her voice. Her voice carried a hint of frustration, her usual composure slipping further.
"you cant sit with us" Gretchen suddenly shouts. Regina paused then finally spoke. "sweatpants are all that fit me right now.
I was torn between extending a helping hand and maintaining my distance.
"what do you think Cady" Gretchen asks as her and Karen both seemed too look too my sister for guidance.
"sorry Regina rules are rules" she smirked at the blonde.
Cady's response caught me off guard, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of disappointment. It was unlike her to be so rigid, especially when someone was clearly in need of support. I exchanged a glance with Janice and Damien, silently conveying my confusion and concern.
I was right she is becoming plastic.
"take a picture losers it will last longer" Regina said too everyone who was watching.
As Regina walked away, her words lingered in the air, and her gaze seemed to lock onto mine, almost as if she was silently urging me to follow her. Without a second thought, I pushed myself up from my seat, determined to catch up to her. Ignoring the curious stares of those around me.
