The next day quickly rolled around and I was seated in my English class when Damien, dressed as Santa, made a surprise entrance. The teacher allowed him to distribute candy canes, and as he went around revealing the recipients and the number of candy canes they received, he finally reached me with a smile. "Five for you, Y/n," Damien announced, prompting everyone in the class to turn their attention to me.

I went through them whilst the rest were being handed out.

One was from Olivia, saying, 'Text me back, partner xoxox.' Luckily, she wasn't in this class. The next candy cane came from Gwen Landry, who was indeed in my English class. As I glanced at her, I could feel her eyes on me. Her candy cane bore a phone number along with a cheeky pickup line. 'Is your name Google? Because you've got everything I've been searching for.'

Well, I hope Google also has a 'block' button. I thought to myself. she was lovely I am sure just not my type.

The third Candy cane was from a gentleman, Named Darius Miller. On it  quite literally saying 'Your hot lets smash'

I couldn't help but laugh at Darius's straightforwardness. "Well, at least he's direct," I thought, amused by the boldness of the message. It seemed he might need a little more insight into my preferences.

The fourth candy cane was from Jenna, a girl in my Chemistry class. It featured an intricately drawn heart with a mistletoe and a Little cat, the message said, "Under the mistletoe, you're my purrfect match! Happy holidays!" Now I might just have too follow up on this one. I smiled looking at the note

The Fifth candy cane turned out to be a bit of a puzzle. On the note, there were whole sentences written, but they had been scribbled over, making it impossible for me to decipher the message.

I looked at the bottom of the note and there was one  sentence not scribbled over On the note, the message read, "Why has the way I see you changed?" There was no indication of who it was from. Intrigued and slightly suspicious, I carefully tucked the note into my pocket,

At lunch, I pulled out the note, showing it to the others. "A secret admirer, I wonder who it is," Janice said, her eyes scanning the words on the paper. The group began speculating, each person throwing in their guesses and theories about the mysterious sender.

Anyway, I'm going to go practice for the show," I declared, making my way to the music room.

Aaron called me over on the way. "hey Y/n I forgot too thank you for the whole Halloween Regina incident so how did it go?"

"well lets see. she nearly threw up in my car multiple times, and I ended up having to stay over" "shit I'm sorry Y/n, what can I do to make it up too you" Aaron asks seeming sincere.

"It's alright," I shrugged, and he continued, "Alright, but let's meet up soon, okay? I miss my smoking buddy."

I smiled, "Sure thing."

Heading to the music room, I mulled over the day's happenings. The secret admirer, the notes, and the upcoming performance all added a layer of excitement to my high school routine.

I picked up my guitar, its familiar weight grounding me in the familiar surroundings of the music room. The instrument felt like an extension of myself, and as I strummed a few chords, the stresses of the day began to melt away. I hadn't decided which song I was going too play for the talent show so I was testing a multitude of them out. One of the songs I decided to try was "You Belong With Me" by Taylor Swift.

I grabbed my guitar from the corner of the music room. Unsure about the song for the talent show, I started testing a bunch. I settled on Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me." As I strummed and sang, the lyrics filled the room, capturing the emotions I wanted to convey.

As I sang the final note of "You Belong With Me," a sense of fulfilment washed over me.

As the last chord of the song resonated in the room, a sudden cough disrupted the silence. I turned towards the source, and to my surprise, there stood Regina. She leaned casually against the doorframe, her expression an odd mix of curiosity and something else I couldn't quite decipher.

"Well, well, what do we have here?" she remarked, her tone carrying a hint of sarcasm. "Didn't know you had a soft spot for Taylor Swift." she extorted with a sly smile.                                            "what are you stalking me" I queried

"Just happened to pass by and heard the melody. Curiosity got the better of me, you know?"         I rolled my eyes, not entirely buying her casual demeanour. "Well, feel free to keep walking. I'm not here for a private concert."

Regina walked towards me "You know," she said with a sly smirk, "I never thought I'd see the day when the resident nerd would actually have some talent." Her words dripped with both sarcasm and a hint of curiosity.

I shot her a challenging look, refusing to let her get under my skin. "You should leave, Regina. This isn't your scene."

Regina's eyes narrowed slightly, but instead of retreating, she took a step closer, her curiosity palpable. The room suddenly felt smaller, and I went back too playing, trying to maintain my focus. hoping she would get the message too leave.

"You know, Herron," Regina began, her tone more conversational than confrontational, "I never took you for a musical prodigy. What else are you hiding behind that cold demeanour?" she continues shortening the distance.

I glanced at her, scepticism evident in my expression. "Just playing around. It doesn't mean anything."

Regina smirked, a gesture that sent shivers down my spine. "You're full of surprises, aren't you? Maybe there's more to you than meets the eye."

She closed the distance even further, and I couldn't help but feel a mixture of discomfort and curiosity. The air crackled with an unexpected tension, and I kept strumming, pretending her presence wasn't affecting me.

Regina then suddenly leans over me, "You can strum those strings, but I doubt it changes anything," Regina said, her voice lower, almost a whisper. "We still don't like each other."

for a moment, I couldn't help but let my gaze trail down to her lips.

she held a smirk, and I could feel the intensity of our mutual disdain. "I fucking hate you," I declared, a bitter smile accompanying the words as I held her gaze, not allowing the vulnerability beneath the surface to take over.

Regina's smirk widened, and I could sense a hint of amusement in her eyes. " Oh baby, I assure you the feeling's mutual." Regina's eyes slid down my face and she sucked in a breath but she quickly backed away from me , "You should do yourself a favour and not compete. The girls and I are going to win anyway. Later, nerd."  she exited the music room, practically scurried out.

I held my palm to my cheek, It was red hot.
