This is a much longer chapter than usual. Honestly, I could make a whole separate story of just all of their past Halloween heists, if that's something people would be interested in.
Sunshine was woken up the next morning by loud chattering and she sat up slowly to see where it was coming from. She instantly noticed that Bismuth was no longer beside her and hurriedly got dressed before following the voices into the main compartment.
The rest of the group were all there, discussing something in adrenaline filled voices. When she stepped out, Prince turned to her and grinned, "So, Sunny, how'd you sleep last night?"
She realized all of a sudden that Bismuth's sent was still all over her and hers on him. She giggled nervously, trying to dodge the question. "What are you all so exited about?"
Sprite sprinted over, grabbing her by her shoulders and shaking her excitedly. "It's the Halloween Heist, Sunny!"
Despite not being too fond of how the holiday started, with the banishing and warding off of spirits and other hellish creatures, Halloween was the only celebration that ghouls would participate in that originated from Hell-haters, as ghouls would call them. For them, it was just an excuse to act like their regular, manik selves.
"The...what? We're not about to rob a bank or something, are we?" Sunshine joked, still as confused as she had been before. "I may be living with you for now but that doesn't mean I'm about to commit any crimes."
Sprite giggled, "No, no. It's not one of those heists. We do this one as a tradition, at Aquaika."
"You rob your friend's business as a tradition!?" Sunshine blurted out. These apparent explanations were really not giving her any other ideas of what this 'Halloween Heist' actually was.
"No, no." Sprite could barely speak through laughter. "She lets us do it. It's just a game. We're not actually stealing anything of value from her or the business."
Sunshine sighed, "You should have lead with that. Instead of just saying we're gonna go steal some shit. Wanna join us?"
Sprite collapsed to the floor with laughter, the others silently giggling at her summery aswell.
Poppy strolled over, picking Sprite up and handing them to Em like a ragdoll. "Trudy Judy made it up, based off the Halloween Heists in Brooklyn 99. Every Halloween she hides a crown somewhere, and she has to show us where, and then we have to take it. Whoever has the crown at midnight wins. If she wins, we have to take human pain meds. If we win, she takes us to a nearby shop and buys us shit. Aquaika's got a lot, that's for sure, but they don't have everything."
Human pain medication was known not to work on ghouls and, instead, just made them extremely hyper. Trudy Judy had learnt that the hard way when Prince had injured himself during one of their regular heists and she'd given him painkillers to help but instead had to deal with an adrenaline rushed, still injured ghoul. It had taken her a whole hour to strap him down and prevent any further injuries from his chaos, mostly because he would just ghost away every time she tryed.
"And we're not allowed to use our magics!" Sprite called over, still being restrained in Em's arms.
"Yes, that's the one rule." Poppy continued, "You want to join? It'll be fun, I swear."
Sunshine thought on it for a moment. "Wait, won't it be a little risky to go out? I mean, with Santos' cult still after you, going into public might be dangerous."
Bismuth frowned, turning to Sprite to have the final say. The shorter ghoul looked deep in thought and Sunshine noticed how their hands had started to shake slightly. "They wouldn't risk going anywhere near Aquaika. Sure, they could send someone from their congregation, but I don't think-"
