Author's POV:
Jin couldn't stop himself from running his soft fingers down the large picture of his father hung upon the empty wall of their large parlor, only to remember the ashes it has turned into.
The flashes of the cruel destiny he and his family has suffered comes clashing down infront of his eyes as he comes back to his senses and breaks into a fit of silent cry. Half of the place is ruined leaving only the remenents of once beautiful mansion.
Jin couldn't help the tears rolling down the redness of his cheeks living it's marks behind his still beautiful face.
"Why is he crying?"
Jin hears his mother voice asking the question full of concern, to her brother who has came to take them far away from the misery. To somewhere more peaceful.
"And Why are we here and not in our house? I asked you to take me to my husband. Let's not waste our time here." Mrs. Kim speaks in a daze, while kissing the chain with a timepiece pandent wrapped around her fingers.
Her brother stands unspoken, feeling his mouth sealed. How could he say something when his sister is still in the happy loops of her life where her husband was still alive.
Jin wipes his tears with the back of his palm and turns around. His uncle was right. He can't fall weak now. He has his mother and a little sister to take care of.
He walks his steps towards his mother and holds her shoulder making her smile even more. But for Jin, the smile is a bitter one, yet he couldn't show it and only pretend infront of his mother.
"Eomma, I told you Appa has gone for an emergency treatment in an army campus. It will take time for him to come back here."
"But I miss him already! "
Jin's eyes breaks into a series of fresh tears upon hearing her eomma innocently dreaming of her husband return back into her arms.
The dreams which left her mind and heart ignore the very familiar place which she once shared with her love for all those years, which has turned into nothingness. The dreams which veiled her own eyes which has witnessed the cruel death of her beloved.
"We miss you Appa!"
Jin whisprers, swiftly tugging his face up towards the sky with eyes still moist.
Without replying to her mother, he wraps the woolen shawl tightly around her, holds her hand and walks towards where others were waiting for them in the cab.
Park Haneul, Jin's uncle helps him settle down his mother in the car seat. Jin sits deside his mother and little sister who has fallen asleep in the seat before they came here from hospital after picking his mother who refused to accept the reality. With heavy hearts, others played along with her, unable to see her smile fade.
Aunt Misa wanted to come along with Jin to Seoul but the younger told her not to as she has her own family to take care of. She was worried for the family she has worked for years but decided to let them go.
Jin put his head on her shoulder and closes his eyes. A second later, he feels a palm caressing his side of face and fixing his locks falling above his eyes. The warmth he missed in those two days came back now. Despite his mother being absent mentally, he appreciates his mother's presence physically. He can't fight it alone. He needs his family.
Even if he has to lie to his mother, he kept telling himself that it's all for her safety and mental health.
As he opens his eyes to look outside the window and wonders why it's snowing continuously today. It's usually cold where they live but it's not the season for such heavy snow. Or may be it's his father's way to bid farewell to them from heaven.
