W game
third person pov.Yuna, the 5'9 power forward, flew in the air and bitch-slapped the ball out of bounds. "Get that shit out of here!" she yelled as her feet hit the ground, her death stare locking onto the opponent she blocked. "I got hops. I! Me," she spat in her face and backpedalled.
That specific opponent was none other than Hwang Yeji, the four-star prospect and key point guard in the team. 5'6 and swift, her athleticism leaves her a clear advantage against her enemies.
"You aren't shit," Yeji muttered under her breath, handing the ball to her inbounder to pass it in. Bringing the ball up the court with a stylish spin, she threw in some smack talk before dishing it off to a teammate. "Coach would've benched your ass if she saw how you were talking."
"That's why," Yuna replied, a proud grin spreading across her face as she found Yeji attempting to post her up. "You're small." She towered over Yeji, shoving her away with enough force to bring a foul against the defense.
But this was just a scrimmage among the team.
The play resumed, and Yeji, determined nevertheless, managed to get the ball again. She squared up, trying to prove her post-up game was just as efficient regardless of her size and usual role.
"Oh, yeah?" Yuna challenged, leaning into Yeji, front to her back. "Let's go. Fuck it, shoot it, Hwang. Shoot it," she dared, her arm tall in the air.
Yeji, her frustration getting the best of her, threw a sharp shoulder bump into Yuna before stepping back and fading away into a difficult shot.
The basket swished clean, and Yeji howled, "You're trash!" her dominant hand still raised with victory.
Yuna slouched in disappointment before jogging back, sliding up beside Yeji as if nothing had happened.
Now on defense, Yeji stepped up to guard Yuna, blabbering in her ear. The two clashed immediately, Yuna driving into her frame with pressure, each move a fight for control and balance.
"Did you learn your lesson, tough girl?"
Yuna rammed Yeji off her shoulder with an aggressive nudge and raised her hand for the ball. "Right here!"
The ball landed in her hands, Yeji glued to her back. With a drop-spin as flashy as lightning, Yuna slipped around her and glided to the hoop, finishing with a smooth layup.
Yuna stood under the rim, tugging at her lips as the ball bounced in front of her. "Oh? I thought—" She cut herself off, shaking her head as she chuckled. "You're ass. How are we even on the same team?"
Yeji reached for the rock, her hand brushing against Yuna's arm as she moved past her.
She was flexing in front of her with a winning smirk. And the sight only made Yeji's blood boil.
Yuna's obnoxious confidence was notorious, and Yeji often found herself the victim of it. Despite her humble background, Yeji felt a defensive irritation whenever Yuna displayed her attitude, pushing Yeji's buttons just by being herself.
"Shut the fuck up, Yuna."
"I don't think that's my name."
Yeji flicked her neck towards Yuna as she stormed up to her, cocking her chin up. "What the hell are you on about?"
"Don't you get it?" Yuna challenged her with narrowed eyes and a smirk that killed. Leaning in slightly, she whispered, "I own you," her tone sharp.
Yeji's fist connected with Yuna's cheek, knocking her slightly off balance. The impact was unbearable, but before she could react, Yuna gripped her shoulders, her temper rising instantly.
"You stupid bitch," she hissed, voice thick with rage. "What the fuck is wrong with you?"
Yuna aimed for Yeji's hair, pulling her down with a snarl. Then, the two ended up on the hardwood floor.
Before the scuffle escalated, teammates rushed in, pulling them apart and forcing them into separate areas. They stared each other down, gnawing at the feel like blood would spill at any moment.
Yeji swiped at her lip and realized Yuna had snuck in a scratch, feeling the sting of blood.
Just then, the coach walked in, an eyebrow tilted. "What the heck happened here?"
"They were arguing a little, nothing else," Chaeryeong, a supporting teammate, explained, as if she had her excuse ready for the coach.
"Damn it, you two, I swear... Hwang, Shin, come here. Now."
Embarrassed and panting softly, they confronted the coach, each sharing their side of the story while pointing the finger at one another.
"Shut— Quiet, you two! You are both to blame and we cannot keep practicing with this kind of disruption. Is this what we do? We fight with one another? We are a team."
"But coach—"
"Quiet. You guys are making up and sorting your differences. To the locker room and stay in the locker room till we're finished."
Yeji was the first to step away, muttering, "Fuck." Yuna followed, quietly apologizing under her breath as she walked off.
In the locker room, they sat on different sides of the concrete benches, lost in their thoughts. Yeji wiped sweat off her face with a cloth, while Yuna focused on changing, the silence palpable between them.
"If you hadn't..." Yeji began. "Shit. If you had just shut your mouth... we wouldn't be here."
Yuna glanced over at Yeji, slipping her shirt on. "Don't act like you didn't throw the first punch," she responded and put on her regular shoes.
"What? So I was supposed to bear with your shit?"
"You did, but I got your ass back," Yuna shot back, emitting a short chuckle. "Was that why?"
"Shut up. I did nothing with her that night." Yeji twisted to face Yuna, her fists clenched tight. "Talk to her for me, will you? Oh, that's right. She hates you."
Their rivalry, though no one knew, had all started over a girl at a party.
Yuna stomped toward Yeji with a lit flame in her eyes, and Yeji stood her ground, unflinching.
"Don't try it," Yeji warned. "I'll tell Coach, and you know Coach will get your ass suspended."

Giselle, with a locker beside Yeji's, took the opportunity to ask her best friend what was going on. "What the hell happened back there?"
"Didn't you hear her? Yuna was shit-talking me when Coach walked out. I don't know why she has started this."
"Oh, I thought... Is that it?"
"Eh, just about. Why?"
"When I was walking in with Karina, Yuna was talking with Chaeryeong and said how you were stalking Lia on her way to the party. She said that she wants to intimidate you in order to protect her."
Yeji's eyebrows rolled in confusion. "Are you fucking kidding me? Now she's making up lies?!" She didn't care if it caused an outbreak and instantly ran toward Yuna, throwing her onto the ground and wrestling on top. "You're spreading rumors about me?!"
"Get off me!"
"You want to ruin my future? My relationship with Coach?"
Yeji was quickly pulled off and pushed her teammates away.
"Don't be a fucking freak, then. Don't get involved with my love life."
"What love life? Lia wants nothing to do with you. Get it right."
"So, what? Are you thinking about a way to get with her?"
Yeji squinted her eyes with silence, turning on her heel and walking away. She didn't have a real answer and decided to keep Yuna wondering. She wouldn't let her destroy her life using basketball.
