"No!" I cry, "please come back!" I kneel next to him, "Jared!" I cry on top of his chest. "Please!" I cry, and I grab his hand. I know my pleading won't bring him back, but I don't know what else to do. "I'll be happy," I whisper, "for you." Molly walks into the room, "Oh, Raven," she says, "I'm so sorry."
She kneels next to me and gives me a hug. "He's gone," I cry into her shoulder, "forever." She doesn't let go of me, which I appreciate. "Not forever," Molly says, "I promise you when we go to the Bureau I will make sure to get some revival serum for him." I smile a little bit.
I see Johanna walk into the room. When she sees Jared on the floor and my teary eyes she places a hand over her mouth, "My son," she cries. I get up and give her some time with his body. Molly takes me back to our living quarters. Tobias opens the door for us.
He sees my watering eyes, "I'm so sorry," he says. He wraps his arms around me, "It'll get easier," he says, "I promise." I stay crying into his shirt, I've never cried this much for anything in my life. "I doubt it," I tell him, "Trust me, it always does," he says. I place my hand in my pocket and rub the slip of paper Jared gave me.
I wash my face and get ready to go to dinner. Uriah walks up to me, "Please forgive me," he sobs, "please." "I don't know if I can completely forgive you, but I won't hate you for it," I tell him. I decide to sit with him and Marlene. "I'm sorry for your loss," Marlene says. I just nod. I can tell she feels bad.
Uriah keeps his head down the whole time, but I notice Marlene holding his hand for comfort. Jared would do the same for me. I smile in my head a little. "Let's go in line," I say, "I hear they have good desserts." Marlene smiles, "Hey, if they have muffins Uriah and I can show you a trick," she says.
She goes in line for about ten minutes then comes back with a muffin. "Come with us," she says. We go outside, first making a trip to her living quarters to get a gun. She places the muffin on her head and passes the gun to Uriah. "Go!" She says. He shoots the muffin right off her head, "Bravo," I say.
Uriah drops the gun, "I have to go," he says. I can tell the guilt is killing him. I feel pretty bad. He didn't know what he was doing, he never wanted to kill anyone. He's also a nice guy. Marlene follows after him, "Bye Raven," she says. I wave.
I go back to the cafeteria, I see Johanna talking to Peter. I watch a tear escape his eye. He walks up to me and I just hug him. "He was a sarcastic asshole," Peter says, "but he was my best friend." After dinner we go outside.
"You know he'd never shut up about you," he says.
"Really?"
"Yeah. I'd always be like, 'I don't care about that brat,' and he'd smile and say, 'she's a brat, but I like her anyway' and then he'd start rambling about you again."
"I didn't know I had a nickname."
"Yeah, well it's true."
"Shut up. But I don't care, cause it's half true."
"Half true? Please."
"Whatever."
"But seriously he really cared about you. That's why I learned to tolerate you."
"Tolerate me? You know you like my company."
"Only a little."
"Okay, whatever you say."
"Well we should learn to be friends. For Jared."
"For Jared."
We go to our separate living quarters. I climb up to the top bunk and smile. I smile because I know Jared would want me to.
