CHAPTER 20

Damien's POV

After Jess left I played a few games with the twins. Who knew kids had so much energy. I still feel so much resentment, I missed so much.
But I am not mad at Jessica though. She did what she thought was right but she could have found a way to tell me I had kids.

Even though I do not know how I would have reacted if she told me she was pregnant. I feel bad with how I treated her but there is really no use crying over spilled milk.

I do not understand why she is mad about Parker. He was just following orders.
Parker has been with me for a very long time.

He is Carmen's best friend, I will forever be thankful to Carmen's family. They gave me a name as I was just a poor orphan.

His father always came to the home I was staying at and he sometimes came with Carmen. We then became close and they started inviting me to their home.
Carmen's dad allowed me to use their name and I think it also helped open a few doors for me but I have never asked them for anything.
I didn't live with them I just visited them here and there.
Mr Anderson wanted me to be a part of their family legally.
But I only agreed to change my surname that's all.

Parker was friends with Carmen first and after he didn't do well in school he decided to go into the military.
He spent 5 years there and then one day he showed up at my door asking for a job.

Since I was in need of a bodyguard I hired him. That was when I started getting threats after I made a few enemies when I took over their companies.

I think I need to call Parker so we can go over exactly what happened with Jess 6 years ago.

I know I asked him to escort her out of the boat but I didn't think he would leave her by the dock.

After she left I got into a 3 hour meeting with my executives and when I finished I just asked him if she left and he said yes.

We left it at that and I moved on with my life. Who would have thought that one moment would cost me 5 years with my children.

I dont plan on dwelling in the past though.
I was in my thoughts so much I barely heard the phone ring.
When I finally took it from my pocket it was Carmen.

"I'm glad you called, I have a bone to pick with you" I say to him.

"Now what did I do?"

"When I told you I found out I have kids I did not expect you to handle anything for me. I was sharing with you as we are friends"

"Brothers Damien, we are brothers." He says.

"Yeah that," he always says that, but we both know the truth. I have always been alone and I do not plan on extending my family.
I now have 2 heirs and that's enough for me.

"So why did you call Jessica, do you know how angry she was that I called a lawyer."

"Okay, well I was looking out for you, did you even do a DNA test to make sure they are yours?you are a rich man Damien don't forget that."

"I know they are mine okay,you don't have to worry about anything. Also the money I have in my bank can't be finished in this life time so I don't think I have to worry about poverty "

"Still, you have to be sure"he says

"I am sure, I will speak to Jess and get back to you. I hope you read my email. I will coming in sometime this week to fix my will."

"Okay, well mom and dad want to meet your children."

"Well I will have to ask their mother first."

"Why? They are half yours you know" he says.

"I know that, but I do not think it will do me any good to fight with the mother of my children "

"Wait do you love her? because that would explain this craziness"

"I wouldn't say love, but I want us to be on good terms so we can do what is best for Dj and Carrie"

"How come you are only finding out about them now?"

" Well that's partly my fault, I broke up with her years ago and I guess she thought I wouldn't want the kids too"

"Or she was punishing you"

" Can not be a lawyer for once and be a friend Carmen"

"Okay fine, but make that dNa test because I am not changing or adding anyone to your will until I am sure you are not being scammed"

"I can easily find another law firm" I state.

"Please, no one is as good as me when it comes to business law and you know it in this country, mom and dad are having a braai end of this month. They haven't seen you in forever. It might be your chance to even introduce them to their grandkids."

Carmen refuses to accept the line I have clearly drawn between his family and I. I do not want anyone to think I am were I am because of them.

"I will try to make time okay."

"Make time Damien,you have to come, they miss you so much.they are always talking about how you never come home anymore"

It's not my home to come to,my parents long abandoned me. And I do not want to have to expectations from people.

I don't give him a clear answer on if I will come or not but I make up an excuse to end the call.

I head towards the living room to check on them and they are still watching SpongeBob SquarePants.

I go back to the kitchen and make chicken sandwiches for them since we last ate in the morning.
I need to learn how to cook proper meals because I know they will eventually come over to my place and I need to know how to make them healthy food.

I have to talk to Jessica about that when she arrives. Hopefully she will be in a better mood when she comes so I can ask her if I can take the kids to the Andersons end of month and it would be better if they slept over at my place.
I have already prepared their rooms.

After eating we play some more games and then at 6pm I help them wash up.
I love that they do not mind me bathing them but I still don't want them to be too trusting especially Carrie.
I have bonded so much with them that I do not think I will ever want to be apart from them ever.

I need to have a talk with Parker this week. We have to make it up to Jessica some how even though I don't know why she was so hysteric.
