We made it to school with a minute to spare. Tana usually waited for me by my locker but went ahead once she realized I was late. Ace and I didn't walk into class together because we didn't need anyone to come up with weird ideas. The rumor mill spreads fast around Arbor High. That was one rumor we didn't need the whole school talking about.

Despite our interesting morning, I was still setting out to do exactly what I planned to do. Just because things got a little awkward didn't mean my focus would change. My goal was to still make him sweat even if it was in front of a whole class. He better be good at hiding his emotions or else we'd be busted.

Ace wasn't the only person to notice my outfit. Leave it to Jake to have his prying eyes on me. The way he looked at me felt icky. It didn't make me nervous in the way Ace's gaze did. Instead, Jake's eyes made me feel gross, like some creep was staring at me. It's because I knew what his intentions were versus Ace, who was a hard bone to crack. Jake was the last person I wanted to be engrossed by this outfit. Ace was right on that front.

Walking to my seat, I felt Jake watching my every step. Tana was visibly annoyed by him but kept her composure since Ace walked in soon after. Usually, this class is lively with everyone buzzing about the latest gossip. Ever since Ace took over this class has been pretty sad. No one was talking. The room was completely silence as Ace pulled out papers from his sack. I immediately knew what those were, eager to see everyone's grade.

Ace smiled finally acknowledging the class. "So, is anyone ready to see their test results?" He questioned to which no one responded. "Come on, they weren't that bad." Bullshit.

As I raised my hand, he reluctantly urged me to speak. "Do you need me to pass them out?" I asked him. My plan was in motion.

He stared at me almost trying to size me up. There wasn't a reason for him to say no. At least where the class will make sense of it. We both knew that and yet he still insisted on challenging me. When will he ever learn that he can't win?

"Does anybody else want to take on that task?" He looked around the room, and nobody said anything. "Fine, Helix, get up here."

I smirked, gladly getting out of my seat. I grabbed the papers from his hands, getting a good look at his face. He knew what I was doing, and the anger in his face was funny as fuck. If he could kill me, I'm positive that he would. The way I strutted around the class without a care in the world drove him mad. Now and then, I'd look at him from the corner of my eye to see how he reacted. Slyly, his eyes scanned every part of my body from head to toe. Especially when I was in the front row. The best part is that he couldn't do anything about it.

Ace wasn't the only person looking at me, though. As soon as I got to Jake's test, I inwardly groaned, as being near him was a headache and a half. The annoyance that intruded on my insides was unbearable. Although I wanted to give him the benefit of the doubt, his feelings could be genuine, and I won't know that if I keep rejecting him.

Giving him his test, Jake looked up at me with a flirtatious smile on his face. "Well, don't you look stunning?" He winked. "You should pass out papers more often."

Though his line was abhorrent, I did appreciate the compliment. "Thank you," I smiled.

"You know, my offer is still on the table," he said, looking up at me.

I shook my head, ready to be away from him. "Still not happening." I retorted, handing out the last test before sitting down.

Once I did, I saw Ace's face again. I'm sure he saw that interaction between Jake and me. The one person he wanted me to be weary of flirts with me right in front of him. It could have been Jake's way to assert dominance but something was still nagging at me. More was happening between these two that I couldn't put my finger on. Or maybe I'm just being paranoid.
