|Game of Chicken|

After Ace decided to challenge me, I couldn't bring myself to let it go. Nearly every day this week I tried to find ways to get away from him. It was hard since we were at school but dammit he couldn't win! I tried hiding in bathrooms, under tables, and in abandoned classrooms, but nothing seemed to work. He was always one step ahead of me and it bothered me to no end. The guy was just too good.

Friday was different though. Right during lunch time, Tana and I came up with a plan for her to distract him this time. Being the massive flirt that she is, this came easy to her. Since he was also her teacher as well she could ask him questions about class not like she cared. It was the only way for him to lose sight of me. I'd be able to slip away without a trace and win this little game we had going on.

As soon as the bell rang, Tana got into position while I watched her ask questions she had no interest in knowing the answers to. Quickly, I slipped out of the classroom almost sprinting to find a place to hide. The only other place where it would take time for him to find me would be the library. The number of bookshelves he would have to look between would be endless. Take that, Ace Cain!

Making my way into the library, I immersed myself in the way back so he couldn't even see me through the glass door. Once I felt comfortable enough, I slid on the ground to take a breath. That took so much and after failing all week, I finally won. Honestly, I never expected it to happen and I have Tana to thank for it. That'll teach him to challenge me.

Unfortunately, our little game of chicken left me in the arms of Jake Trubisky once again. He's the last person I wanted to see and not someone I should ever be alone with. His intentions were always unclear to me. We used to be cordial but lately, he's been acting very strange. Granted, once we got to high school I sort of stopped talking to him. However, that didn't seem to be a reason for him to act like he was out to get me. The guy was such a creep.

"The universe just loves giving me what I want," he smiled graciously.

What was once peaceful, turned into whatever game Jake was trying to play. "Oh brother," I groaned standing up once more. "Why did you have to be here?"

He fake winced. "Ouch, you're never excited to see me anymore," he pouted.

"That's because you started acting strange Jake." My arms folded over my chest.

It's like he didn't notice his behavior toward me. Especially at the gala. What did he plan to do if Ace hadn't shown up? If he hadn't been such a weirdo, maybe I would have given him a chance. His trying to force himself on me made it so I'm not interested even more. Jake was a lot more attractive when he wasn't acting like a jerk.

Still, if he planned to play on my emotions it wasn't going to work. He was never interested in me before. What was with his sudden change of heart? Let's hope this had nothing to do with my father. It gets old when guys try to date me because of who my father is. When was I going to be seen as my own person?

He nodded his head as he stepped closer to me. "I know, I'm sorry for that." He apologized. "And I'm sorry for what happened a few days ago."

I gulped not sure if I should accept his apology or not. "You were coming on real strong," I said.

"Could you blame me? Look at you." He smiled and took my hand. "You may as well be a goddess."

His compliments were flattering but not enough to convince me he was being serious. "What's the catch, Jake?" I immediately asked.

He chuckled. "Why does there have to be a catch?"

"You're a Trubisky, there's always a catch," I reminded him.
