|Let's Meet Up|

"Is this real!" I screamed feeling overwhelmed with emotion. "Ace, is this real?" He was the first person I asked.

My heart couldn't take seeing this message. It was from her, from my mom! All this time I've been wondering where she was and now I had the answer in the palm of my hand. There wasn't much information in the text, but it was enough to give me hope. Hope that if my mom is out there, then she's okay. She's alive and waiting to see me. I wanted to burst into tears just from how happy I was. This can't be real!

There was silence in the room as my eyes continued to stare at the words on the screen. Everything in me wanted to agree, to respond to the message, but the inner part of me hesitated. This is very well her number but that doesn't mean she's the one texting me. From the shoot-out to Ace's car blowing up, this could have been anyone trying to get their hands on me. Their attempts have been futile so far. Using my mom as a crutch was the perfect way to lure me out.

Even with my smart thinking, there was nothing more that I wanted than to see her face. Her rosy-cheeked face. She was missed so much and having her back home, getting to hear her tell me good morning every day; is all I needed. I'm willing to risk my life to see if my mother was okay. Her life meant more to me than my own. Being a Helix was no joke and my mom always handled it with grace. Whatever happened, she didn't deserve it. Now it was time for her to come back. Come back to her family.

Nobody said anything as I looked around at the lot of them all too stunned to speak. Even Hailey looked as if she were hearing things. No one believed that this was my mom texting me. I couldn't blame them but dammit, they were pissing me off. Even Ace, who I thought would be more sympathetic, seemed to doubt that it was her. Why was everyone doubting me? None of them would say anything. They all looked...afraid.

"Y-you believe me, right?" My emotions were heightened to unforeseen levels. "It says it right here, this is her number!" I screamed and point to the text sent to me.

It was bothersome that none of them would speak up. Including Tana and Ace. They knew best how I felt about my mom's situation. Ace has seen me argue with my dad over him not doing his best to find her. He had experienced losing a parent and wondered what happened. His answer wasn't happy but maybe this could be for me. It'll explain so many things and give me the solace I needed to breathe. Everyone looked at me like I was nuts instead of providing me with an answer. It was maddening.

Finally, one of them grew some balls and took the initiative to address my concerns. Unfortunately, Jake was the one to speak first and it didn't sit well with me that he was the one to say something. He was the last person who should have any input. His opinion wouldn't mean as much since I've never confided in him about my mom.

Taking my phone, he read the message that says Let's meet up. It was from my mom's number as it was saved in my phone under her name. Who else would be texting me from her phone? It'd impress me if they were able to get in because she had a very unique code that couldn't just be guessed. Everything was pointing to this being my mom and Jake seemed to agree.

His head nodded as he handed my phone back. "It says it's from her," he agreed. "Who else would have her mom's phone?"

Tana also decided to give her two cents. "We shouldn't be hasty. I mean we saw what happened at the exhibition," she reminded me. "This could be anybody. An imposter." She was just being cautious and I respected it.

"Why don't you try calling it," Tyler suggested.

That could help determine if it's her or not. Anyone who answered would give us what we needed. Given the text though, it's not guaranteed that they'd even pick up. The text clearly stated to meet up. This person wanted face-to-face contact and I doubt my mom was setting me up in any way. She wouldn't do that to her only daughter, her only child.
