|Fight Fire With Fire|

As I sat in Noel's office, the chains came off of me again. Today's events were so chaotic that I wanted to sleep it off. My nerves were everywhere after being in such a stressful situation. Nothing got easier as the days passed. Returning to my previous life didn't seem plausible. With Ace and Noel not letting up, I thought I would never get out of here.

As I curled up in a ball, the sounds of the door being unlocked drew me out of my reverie. While I expected Noel to show up, it was Ace again. His lip was bruised, as was a small portion of his cheek, but he appeared to be in good health overall. As he looked at me, he maintained a soft expression. Though I'm not mad at him, I was best at playing hardball.

I shifted in my seat, turning away from him to avoid his gaze. Every time Ace looked at me, my body had a mind of its own. Those hazel sharp eyes never failed to leave me speechless. He had every right to feel the way he did, but he should have been open from the start.

Ace slowly made his way to the sofa and sat on the opposite side of me. He appeared restless and fixed his gaze on the wall in front of him. As I took a quick look, it was difficult not to notice the intensity on his face. There appeared to be a lot on his mind, and for once, he was going to tell me without my prompting.

"I-I heard what Noel did to you before I came in," he mumbled. His gaze rested on me. "Why didn't you tell me?" He asked.

"What were you planning to do?" I questioned him. "I had no idea you were there until he brought you in."

His hands formed a fist as anger consumed him. "It doesn't matter; you should have said something!" He raised his voice.

My eyebrows furrowed. "What about the situation with your father, huh? You sure did leave out information about that," I spat back.

"That's...that's different," he insisted. "Noel put his hands around your neck. I'll kill him." His voice lowered with venom.

It's so typical of us to be here arguing right now. We wouldn't be ourselves if we didn't disagree now and then. But honestly, his situation was way different from mine, and he should've just talked to me about it. We weren't supposed to get this close, but now it feels like it's too late.

Still, I tried to be understanding. If I were in his position, I probably would've done the same thing. Losing a parent is rough, and now that I know what happened to my mom; I can feel his pain. We can't get back what we care about, and it seemed like Ace thought revenge was the only way to move on.

Tapping him with my foot, I felt nervous about asking him this question. "Aaron, what was he like?" I wondered.

Ace chuckled, shrugging his shoulders. "A true stand-up guy who will look out for any and everyone," he explained. "He was always going out of his way to help people. That was probably why he wanted to start a bodyguard business."

I smiled. "That makes so much sense. Must be where you got your protective nature."

"I have no idea," he said, shrugging. "He always told me to look out for those closest to me. To never let them get away."

His father sounded like a good person. Doing the right thing for his people. It was no surprise Tyler and Hailey helped Ace with his mission. It was similar to my family's relationships with the Evans and Trubiskys. Once you make allies, they will go to any length to ensure their partners' well-being. I'm sure had my father not done what he did, even our families could have been united.

Ace's expression indicated that his father's death still had a significant impact on him. Even with my words, I wouldn't blame him if he had shot to kill. Ace's decision on what to do with him following his admission was entirely his own. There was nothing I could say or do about it. However, it appeared that Ace was letting him go. Otherwise, he would have died back there.
