|Are You In?|

Ace's POV

"You have a plan? This ought to be interesting."

"Oh, it will be," I said, smiling. "We're going to fight fire with fire."

Reign and I were back on good terms, as expected. She should have ignored me, but instead, she was inviting. Even with the information I tried to intentionally hurt her with, she forgave me. Nobody else could understand what we had. Our relationship was special, and I'm grateful for another chance.

I gently lifted her off my lap and got up, ready to follow through with my plan. Leaving her like that wasn't how I pictured it, but I figured she'd get it. This was all to help her move on, to let me put this whole second life of mine behind me. From here on out, I'd be able to stay in the background, without having to get involved in this gullible world.

Reign walked me to the door, looking all sad. "You leaving already?" She asked, clearly surprised.

I smirked and cupped her cheeks. "I gotta get some things sorted out," I said. "But I'll be right back to fill you in."

"Why does it feel like I shouldn't trust you?" She crossed her arms.

I leaned in and gave her a deep kiss, the kind that would melt your heart. It had been a while since we kissed, and honestly, it felt a million times better than when we split. Even with my busted lip, the pain was worth it to feel her close again.

I smiled down at her and hoped she'd believe me. "Trust me, sweetheart. I won't let you down again."

Her expression softened when she looked into my eyes. "I know you won't, Ace," she said, smiling gently.

"Tyler will be here later to guard the door. That's when I'll come back with all the details about our plans," I explained.

She nodded. "Got it. And Ace," she added, grabbing my arm, "be careful."

We hugged one last time before I headed off on my mission. Hailey was with me while Tyler caught up on some sleep before his shift. He really needed to rest after being on guard all night, or else our plan would be in trouble. Sneaking Jake into the building is going to be tricky, but we'll figure that out when we get there.

Right now, I'm worried he might not want to help. Our relationship isn't exactly great, especially when Reign is around. It always turns into some weird competition. It started after his behavior that first night I was on duty, and over time, it just became jealousy. I guess I'm worried about losing her to him since, let's be honest, he's a Trubisky. Those guys have a smooth way of talking, and before I knew it, they were chatting way more than I expected.

Jake's gearing up to take over his dad's role one day. He could be the one to change the game for this family and give them a better image. I really think he knows how much of an impact he could make, especially if people find out we ended Noel's reign. That could really boost Jake's status.

Leaving my inner thoughts behind, we arrived at the Trubiskys' house, and memories of my training came rushing back. Their ruthlessness put things into perspective and may have been what I needed to grow both professionally and personally. The family's reputation certainly held true.

Hailey and I got out of the car as I rang the doorbell, still nervous about asking Jake for help. I knew we wouldn't manage without him.
