I look across the room, intensely watching my phone. I watch the phone buzz and quickly rush over, completely ignoring what I was doing just a second ago. Just to find out the notification is a coupon from a restaurant or worse my boss asking me to finish or check something up for him. This has been my routine for the past week. No matter what time of day the notification I don't want will pop up.
Well I guess a coupon for a pizza doesn't sound so bad. I just honestly would have preferred a notification from someone else. It's a little hard to believe it's been 4 days and we haven't spoken since. Should I be the one to initiate contact first? I have no idea what to do in this situation. The only thing I can do right now is head to work. It's a Tuesday after all.
I glance at my watch wondering if I have enough time for a coffee. I don't. I sigh and head to work where I'm greeted by Itadori.
"Hey Itadori. What're you doing?"
"Oh hey! Just cleaning up a little. Gotta keep this workplace clean you know? No coffee this morning?" He asks with a grin.
I hold back a laugh at his last question before responding, "I don't drink coffee every day." I say, rolling my eyes and wondering how much of an addict I may seem.
"Well I'm just saying since I've seen you drink it almost all the time the last 3 days I've seen you." He says thoughtfully, his fingers on his chin, seemingly recounting the last few days.
"You're too honest sometimes." I say jokingly pretending as if I was going to cry, "No I just didn't have enough time this morning to get a coffee unfortunately." I shrug giving a sad sigh.
"Oh. Well if you want I can go on a coffee run for you, you know the cafe across the street."
"Mm. No I don't want to bother you. I'll just go during lunch. Get myself one of their sandwiches. Suguru's cafe is really good."
"Yeah it is, isn't it?! I'll tell him you said that, he's always open to other people's opinions and their compliments!" He gives a bright smile before continuing, "Would you mind if I go with you?I'm always looking for an excuse to head over there, if that's okay?"
"Yeah sure. I take my break at 12:00 exactly."
"Alright I'll take mines then too!"
I give him a thumbs up and wave as I head to the meeting room. As usual, today and Friday is when we usually have our investor meetings. I fiddle with my pen, as I head over wondering which investors we have over. As usual they don't notify me until I'm actually in the room.
I open the door. I'm actually 5 minutes early this time. Although maybe that's more on time? Because you know what they say on time is late and 5 minutes early is on time.
I think these thoughts as I head to my seat, right next to my boss as usual. Looking up I realize I didn't get a good look at who was in the room and glance around, hoping to see a familiar white mop of hair but at the same time hoping not to see it.
As much as the 2 sides of me conflicted, I ended up feeling disappointed when I realized he wasn't there. As much as I was hoping he wasn't there I can't help but feel a twinge of sadness. I sigh for what seems like the millionth time today and flip through the pages keeping up with the meeting.
Finally the meeting ends as I head to my own office and start my work. The hours seem to drag on until the time arrives for me to go on break, Itadori and me head out. He skips along happily, showing just how much inner child he has in him. I laugh as he tries to cheer me up after hearing how tiring the meeting was. Finally we enter the cafe and I perk up at the smell of coffee.
Itadori looks around like a lost child before shaking his head, "We might not see my mentor today sadly. I was hoping we'd run into him so we could finally all hang out. He seemed to have taken a liking to you which I don't see often."
