Still a Friend

"What do you mean he's not here?" I asked him, a little confused before accepting the matter. "Alright then, thank you." I sigh as I start to leave before turning around. "Can I have my usual?" I say with a small smile and he nods.

After paying for the drink I head to a nearby table and wait for the drink to arrive. I was a little disappointed at the fact Suguru wasn't here but I understood, he probably just didn't want to show his face. It's fine, I'll come back tomorrow. I grab my drink and head to work.

I wake up the next day and get ready for work. It's almost the end of the week so I try to pump up my energy a little bit just to get through these last 2 days of work. After settling on an outfit I leave my apartment and catch my usual bus. Like routine, I get off at my usual stop and walk to work before walking past my building and to the traffic light. After I finish crossing with a small group of people around me I head to the cafe.

"Hey! Good morning!" I say to the familiar morning shift employee. "Is he here?" A sigh of disappointment leaves my lips as he shakes his head. "Okay, I'll just have my usual to go." I say once again with a strained smile.

I wait at the counter this time so I can grab my things and go. Putting my things down, I wait for the drink to be finished and rub the temples of my head in an attempt to alleviate a headache. I see the drink placed in front of me and grab it along with my things as I start to head out the door. As I'm walking, I finally reach the traffic light. I wait for the light to turn green, take a sip and check to see if I've got any phone calls or messages since it never hurts to check.

I groan as I realize I must have left it inside. Quickly I start to head back before stopping as I look through the window. It was Suguru. I was about to step in and talk to him, to finally confront him and hear what he had to say before the clock on my wrist gave a ticking sound.

That could only mean one thing, it was officially nine o'clock. I ran as fast as I could remembering what my boss had told me about being late again. After I crossed the street I took a turn and headed toward my building. I run in before slowing down as fast as I could.

As I walk through the lobby, I'm greeted by none other than the receptionist Martha, "Good morning! It's good to see you!" She says.

I hand her a curt response, "You as well."

"Good to see you late once again." She says and gives a laugh.

"Ha. Ha. Very funny. Did I miss anything?" I ask her feeling a little nervous. It'd been a while since I was late but even then I couldn't risk it.

"Nope. Your boss is running late as well. He said he ran into trouble on the way here, lucky you." She says with a smile.

I give a sigh of relief and wave goodbye heading to my office as fast as I can. As soon as I enter I'm able to feel a bit more relief than in the lobby. Now as I'm left alone, I'm surrounded by nothing less than my own thoughts.

Why was Suguru there when the employee said he wasn't? Was he avoiding me? Did he not want to see me anymore? Should I leave him alone? How long would he keep like this?

As these questions flooded my head, I realized I needed to find a way to talk to him. I couldn't leave him alone. Not until one, I at least heard his side of the story, and two, I was able to finally find Gojo who had decided to avoid me as well.

I scoff as I turn on my desktop. I mean, really. Why are they both avoiding me? Then again, it's not like I wasn't like that a few times. I mean, the way I avoided and looked for Gojo after we kissed or after we fought. It's a Thursday. I should just get to work and get this week over with.

Maybe it is for the best if we all just keep avoiding each other. We did it once already, after high school ended, what's to say we can't do it again? After all if what we continue to do is pull and push, struggle, and then proceed to take and take from each other then we have no claim to each other's time.
