The day of the final task,
"What a wonderful day." Percy muttered, surveying the area around him. "Everyone seems to be enjoying with their families."
"If only they knew what was coming towards them." Connor said, rubbing his palms together. "I can't wait!"
"Easy there Stoll." Annabeth said, a drink in her hand. "Thank the Gods Hecate put a little illusion on me, otherwise things would have gotten a little awkward by now."
"Now that's an understatement." Travis added. "But back to the point, once you show us the signal, we're going to start the party and have Arianna take care of the rest."
"And I'll be backup and monitoring our progress." Annabeth said.
"Also, I don't think you told us this before, but what exactly did you ask Nico to do?" Austin asked me.
"Ah, must have been preoccupied." Percy answered sheepishly. "So, we know Nico can control undead souls, right?"
"Right." Travis nodded.
"And Voldemort is an undead who split his soul into 7 parts." Percy completed, and their eyes widened in realization.
"Ah, I see." Connor nodded. "So we use Voldemort as the distraction while we all get over our power fluctuations."
"Pretty much, yes." Percy answered. "And it also gives me time to complete the prophecy."
"Ah, almost forgot about that." Jason shook his head. "Are you sure you'll have to go to Tartarus, alone?"
"Yep, a 100% certain of that." Percy answered. Jason sighed.
"Very well, if that's what you have to do." He said. "We'll handle things up here while you're gone."
"Ah, speaking of which, actually." Percy said, recalling his meeting with the Gods. "You're going to have to tell the Gods about the future. Just kind of cement that they don't interfere in our plans."
"I'll handle that." Annabeth replied. "You focus on your objective, Seaweed Brain. Leave the rest to me."
"As my lady commands." Percy bowed, talking in a fake British accent.
"Ladies and gentlemen, in five minutes' time, I will be asking you to make your way down to the Quidditch field for the third and final task of the Triwizard Tournament. Will the champions please follow Mr. Bagman down to the stadium now."
"Looks like it's game time." Percy got up, and with it cheers burst across the Slytherin table. He smiled at them and waved, joining Harry on the way. "Well hello there, Potter. Ready for your entire world to flip upside down?"
"What the hell did you do now you sick bastard?" Harry growled.
"Nothing yet." Percy shrugged. "And I won't be doing much of anything, personally."
"What's that supposed to mean?" Harry glared at him, eyes narrowed. Percy ignored him, splitting up to talk to Krum.
"Feeling all right, Harry?" Bagman asked as they went down the stone steps onto the grounds. "Confident?"
"I'm okay," said Harry. It was sort of true; he was nervous, but he kept running over all the hexes and spells he had been practicing in his mind as they walked, and the knowledge that he could remember them all made him feel better. They walked onto the Quidditch field, which was now completely unrecognizable. A twenty-foot-high hedge ran all the way around the edge of it. There was a gap right in front of them: the entrance to the vast maze.
The passage beyond it looked dark and creepy. Five minutes later, the stands had begun to fill; the air was full of excited voices and the rumbling of feet as the hundreds of students filed into their seats. The sky was a deep, clear blue now, and the first stars were starting to appear. Hagrid, Professor Moody, Professor McGonagall, and Professor Flitwick came walking into the stadium and approached Bagman and the champions. They were wearing large, red, luminous stars on their hats, all except Hagrid, who had his on the back of his moleskin vest.
