POV
Julian

I hang up with Slim and rush over to my lifeless appearing best friend.

He's sitting up on his black leather couch with his head back and arms out to the side with closed eyes. Foam sits at the corner of his mouth and his whole color looks off.

Please don't be dead.

In front of X on the coffee table lay pills...Oxy, a fallen-over bottle of liquor that is still dripping off of the coffee table and onto the floor dripping onto his feet, a white piece of paper lays besides the two.

I finally make it to him after my sprints and shake him praying he's just asleep.

"Wake up X, fuck...wake up!" I scream out.

"Don't you fucking do this to me, man, don't you fucking leave me!" I say in panic.

"Don't you fucking leave me...you asshole! Don't fucking do this man." I say as I vigorously shake his unresponsive body.

"Fuck!" I scream out with the unfamiliar sensation of tears running down my cheeks.

"You're my brother man, you can't leave me in this world alone. Please," I beg to the lifeless body of my best friend as tears run down my face and onto him.

The front door bangs through my pleads.

I jump off of X and sprint to the door opening it as fast as I can.

I quickly grab the Narcan from Slim's hand and run to my best friend to administer the opioid-reversing drug.

"Please god, please!" I say as look down at X for signs of life.

Still nothing.

"Evelyn is on her way over with a doctor," Slim breaks the silence.

"Fuck!" I whisper.

"Come on man," I say.

"Has it been long enough for another dose yet?" I ask to whoever is listening.

"Just do it," Tank says.

Green light. I give X another dose of Narcan, please fucking work.

We've all dealt with the incidents of an overdose with someone but this one hits fucking different. This is my brother in front of me right now. My normal logic to the situation is thrown out the window and replaced with panic.

I'm staring at X's neck for signs of breathing and I think I see movement.

"Come on X, get yourself out of this!" I say slapping his face with my hands to wake him.

He slightly tilts his head on his own.

"Oh my god! I think he's coming out of it!" I say and vomit spews out of X's mouth and onto his shoulder and to the leather couch.

At any other time, I'd be disgusted by vomit but in this instance I'm ecstatic.

"Fuck yeah, thank you god, get it out man," I cheer him on.

His eyes remain closed and moves his head to the side.

There's a frantic knock on the door.

Slim opens it up for his sister and the doctor, they rush over and I move out of the way to let them do their thing.

"How many doses have you given him so far?" Evelyn asks.

"2, The last one was about a minute and a half ago and he just threw up with some shallow breathing," I say in one breath.

"Okay, we'll take care of him, Julian, why don't you go get some fresh air," Evelyn says in a soft tone knowing the shit I just went through.

"Okay, yeah. I'll be back in a few, someone please call me if things go south." I half demand, half beg.

"We will man," Tank says giving a half smile.

I walk out of X's penthouse and go outside to ground level texting Steph as I go.

Call me asap, it's about X. Go somewhere where Millie can't hear you

I let out an overwhelmingly stressed breath and wait for Steph to call me.
