"Alright, what can I help you with?" I asked, my heart going out to them.

"Please, we need a room. I know most places only do reservations," she explained, desperation evident in her voice.

"Oh no, you don't need a reservation," I assured her.

"Okay, one room, any will do," she replied quickly, eager to find shelter from the cold.

"Alright," I said, setting up the room on the computer. "You can pay when you check out."

"Here's a tip," she said, offering me some money. She handed it to me but it seemed extremely wet.

I hesitated for a moment, not wanting to accept, but seeing the sincerity in her eyes, I relented. "Thank you," I murmured gratefully. I placed it under the desk to dry, then retrieved a key for the room.

"Also, I'll bring you some dry towels. If you need anything, just dial zero on the phone," I offered, wanting to provide as much comfort as possible.

"Thank you very much," she replied, her gratitude evident.

As they walked away, I rolled to the laundry room and grabbed some extra towels, along with a hair blow dryer, then hurried to deliver them to the family.

"Oh, thank you very much," the woman exclaimed, relief washing over her.

"No problem, and there's hot coffee and hot chocolate in the lobby," I added, hoping to make their stay a little more bearable.

As I got off the elevator, the two men entered. The taller one mumbled something again.

"Doll, Y/N was it?" he called out.

"Yes?" I responded, turning towards them.

I was surprised when the taller man handed me money. "Oh, sorry sir, we can't accept tips," I explained politely, despite the generosity of the gesture.

He looked at me with a perplexed expression before turning away, his confusion evident in the furrow of his brow.

After a long night shift, I finally closed out and headed home, grateful that my residence was conveniently located next to the hotel. I had negotiated a deal with the boss, allowing me to live here for free in exchange for my dedicated work.

The next day, I dragged myself out of bed and made my way to work. As I rolled around, assisting some people, I heard the familiar ding of the doorbell.

"Welcome to Sunny," I greeted, recognizing the same people from the hotel.

I tried to shake off the weird feeling I got, reminding myself that it was just a block away.

I seated them and asked, "Can I start you off with something to drink?"

"Huh, you work here, doll?" the shorter man questioned.

"Yes, I do," I replied, maintaining my composure.

"Okay, I'll have the jack and coke with the burger," he ordered, while the other man simply mumbled in agreement.

I took all of their orders and left, returning shortly to hand them their drinks. "And your food will be out shortly," I assured them before retreating.

"Doll, do you wear those everywhere?" the shorter man inquired, gesturing towards my roller skates.

"Oh, the roller skates? Yeah," I replied with a slight smile.

As I skated away from their table, I couldn't help but feel the strain in my feet. The small confines of the restaurant made constant movement on roller skates particularly exhausting. I found a moment to slip off my skates and rub my tired feet, momentarily relieved by the respite.

After finishing up, I headed outside and couldn't help but shiver. Must be a cold front coming in.

I skated as fast as I could back to the hotel, where Sam greeted me with surprise.

"Wow, no jacket?" he remarked.

"Hush, Sam, I didn't know," I replied with a chuckle, grateful for the warmth of the familiar surroundings.

"OK, there are some people waiting for you in the lobby," Sam informed me as I entered the hotel.

I quickly changed into my uniform and returned to the lobby, where I found the family patiently waiting.

"Hello again," I greeted them with a warm smile, noting their tired expressions.

"Thank you for taking us in last night, even though you didn't have to," the woman said gratefully, her voice filled with sincerity.

"It was no trouble at all. I'm glad we could provide you with a comfortable stay," I replied, genuinely touched by their appreciation.

As they gathered their belongings and prepared to depart, I couldn't help but feel a sense of fulfillment knowing that I had made a difference, even in the smallest of ways.
